That is delicious irony. Hardly surprising that the French are allowing so many across the channel. If it were the other way round, our government would be finding ways to park empty, fuelled boats on beaches ready for use. (Which could work well unless Failing Grayling were put in charge of finding the boats).

There's kind of two separate points in there by my understanding. The Dublin protocol means EU member states can send refugees back to the first EU country they entered and we can no longer do that. There is also then the point that those who have failed to seek asylum in the EU can have a second run at it with us, that may also be part of the Dublin protocol, I'm not certain, but in any case leaving the EU has actually had quite the opposite of the intended consequence of making it easier to prevent immigration.

My reading is that within the Dublin protocol we were part of a multi-state agreement to share the responsibility around.
Now, outside the protocol, we're a separate system - new claim for the refugee and no multi-state agreement to call on.
Thus, if your claim fails in France; have another go in the UK.
Brexit has made the UK more attractive to those gaming the refugee crisis.

Now we're outside that we have no recourse to ask EU member states to take responsibility for people seeking asylum in the UK. We've made ourselves more of a beacon for those seeking asylum, ironically.

Exactly.
Still, at least the hedge funds got what they wanted, otherwise we'd all be losers.

Well, we're short of workers across every sector - farming, haulage, care, medical, veterinary, hospitality etc., so assuming at least a third of those refugees are of working age and medically fit, no one can complain, all good

Although unlike those coming in from the EU previously, new migrants to the UK aren't eligible to work......
