Makes no sense. What does he want Rafiq cancelled from? As far as I can see he's got nothing going on at the moment, unlike the others implicated in all this who are professional cricketers and pundits. If you were uncharitable you might infer Brendan wants Rafiq 'cancelled' from his current position in the national media and so having his status as victim of racism being revoked. And if you were to notice that Brendan also suggests 'woke virtue signallers make up [britain's] opinion forming set' (a total fantasy) then its clear what he actually wants is for everyone to stop making a fuss about a bit of silly racism that wasn't that bad and look, the guys a racist himself anyway.

Azeem Rafiq apologises for using racial slurs on 13:42 - Nov 19 by Vic | How do any of us know that, given his revelations this week and the criticisms of other people’s apologies, he is not just learning from experience and making sure his apology says exactly the right words? Truth is that none of us know what he really thinks - only what he says. Plenty of people say things to me and sound totally convincing and sincere, but I find out later they don’t really mean it. Like we all do at times, they say the right things to get the effect they want. I’m not saying he’s not sincere - only that his words alone don’t tell us that. [Post edited 19 Nov 2021 13:43]

I guess there's no point in anyone apologising for anything they've ever done wrong in that case.

I wasn't getting personal. I was the one being told what to do and called names.

Weirdly he downposts things but doesn't respond, so I take that as he doesn't like the post but can't argue with it haha

So reverse it, how do you know his apology is sincere? It might "seem" sincere but how do you know? Hasn't he just wrote something hasn't he? He couldn't not apologise so its something he HAD to do. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Supposing he isn't sincere, in that case that would imply he still believes what he wrote years ago, and therefore there would probably be a load more evidence that he had been/was still making racist remarks, which would come to light and condemn him? So unless more recent detrimental evidence comes to light regarding his views towards Jewish people, I don't see any reason not to take his apology as being sincere..

Not being Azeen Rafiq myself I can't say for certain that it is sincere but it appears to be based on what he has said. I'd also guess, given someone took the trouble to trawl back to posts he made in 2011, that if this was a wider pattern of behaviour from him and representative of how he tends to behave then some more recent examples would also have been found. That these posts have come out and he's unreservedly apologised is the right thing to do. If you want to claim that it's not sincere then the burden of proof is on you to demonstrate that. I know but I just find that his apology seems to be more sincere and geniune that others is what I find odd. He literally had no other option than to apologise? Writing something you can never tell if it is sincere. How does anyone know he wrote ity. He might have done someone to write it for him. WHo knows. Anyway it is what it is. I'm sure there is a lot more to uncover.
Azeem Rafiq apologises for using racial slurs on 15:10 - Nov 19 with 1267 views | lowhouseblue | both examples of racism are bad and unacceptable. i can't help thinking that there is also a cultural thing associated with male sports dressing rooms - which encourages bullying, forming gangs and excluding others, picking on people etc. racism can then be a particularly nasty expression of a broader cultural problem and both the examples in this story are then reflecting a similar underlying issue.
| And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show |

Well the president of the Board of Deputies of British Jews seems to think his apology is genuine and his further words in this article appear sincere, including acknowledging that he should not expect quick forgiveness. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/59347334 [Post edited 19 Nov 2021 15:44]

Azeem Rafiq apologises for using racial slurs on 10:31 - Nov 19 by Oldboy | Because he replied to my post. If you want to put a general message, just reply to the Op, then no one can be confused or insulted unintentionally. Not sure how you knew he wasn't in some way referring to me, but thanks anyway. |
GB knows me in an online world, I like to think most posters on here know me as someone who’s not the most prolific poster or the most popular but maybe someone who has some moral fibre? of course I’m certainly not implying you have none of those qualities as clearly I know nothing about you.

I don't know any of the other posters (to my knowledge) personally, so can only take what is written. I thought that you were replying to me, which you have pointed out to be incorrect. I thank you for your apology anyway and I would like to apologise for any misunderstanding on my part. Just a shame not all posters on here are willing to accept responsibility for what they write. Thanks again and I shall try and remember your signature as one of the good guys.

Which is of course up to you. Just a shame that you are very quick to tell others that they should learn before commenting, yet you refuse to read up on why your comment is offensive. Maybe practice what you preach in this case. Anyway, I will use one of your favourite sayings when ending a conversation. We will agree to disagree.

I think I pretty much agree with you. I don’t particularly agree with the piece, but thought it might be a useful thing to put into this thread for further discussion.
