Certainly not the point of no return, but I wouldn't be surprised or disappointed to find he had gone now - if we are to make a change I'd be looking to do it ASAP to give the new guy a proper run of things....but I suspect we'll beat Crewe and then stumble through a few games and then that will be it both for him and our season.

I wasn't keen from when I saw how poor a job he did last year, and didn't like way he just blamed players every week - but by time new squad was in place I was happy enough and expected to see him have us right up there - but whatever it is he has had elsewhere, he certainly doesn't seem to have here - the simplistic answer is Richardson, but sure much more to it than that and he just doesn't seem a good fit.

It's a shame, as I do genuinely like him, and think that if he could have got us going it would be fun - but just seems a bad fit in our new structure

Who would you want?

Obvious choice here would be Appleton but he far from convinces me at all. Cook should have been as big a certainty of getting out of this division as we could get, so I'd treat any new appointment from here with trepidation.

Difficult to know really - whoever it is will need to be comfortable working in a structure that cedes power to the executives at the football club.

I think we could attract someone who fans wouldn't think possible - based on aggressiveness and achievement in summer transfer window - but I do think Appleton will be high up the list if Cook were to go.

I'd like it to be a manager on the up, one who could manage in the PL one day, as opposed to someone who relaistically has a ceiling of the CHampionship

Yes, they didn't struggle from the start - they took the clubs forwards, got credit in the bank and then went backwards

Let’s notrewrite history - United finished mid table in Fergies first season, and won nothing for 34 years. Town didn’t perform until 4 years into SBRs reign, both would be examples of patience rather than the short termism on display regarding Cook

There’s not many, if any, unemployed managers that we’d want here and couldn’t see us tempting someone who is employed at the minute, obviously Appleton is the name banded about a lot, I just can’t see a manager coming in mid way through a season and making us world beaters.

I think the two cup games after Crewe could be a welcome distraction this time unlike after the Wycombe game, certainly a big month ahead and could be a make or break period up until and including the Lincoln game.

I would’ve preferred it had Richardson joined Cook here, for sure. Must be a big factor.

The cold hard facts are we have 26 games left and need to pick up 56 points in all likelihood to secure a play off spot, possibly 3/4 less if we are fortunate. That's 2+ points a game and a hell of a task for anyone, Cook or otherwise, even with the squad we have.

Rewrite history....

Man U were 21st when Fergie came in in November, he kept them up and then came 2nd the season after.

When Sir Bob came in here we were struggling and his first 8 games saw wins vs Man U, Arsenal, Man City and West Ham plus draws with Spurs and Everton to see us comfortably in mid table. His next 2 seasons weren't great but he was keeping us up both times and achieving objectives

They earned their patience

It always annoys me when people claim that SBR had a poor start here.

Actually his start was good, bordering on very good or even excellent.

His first two full seasons were certainly a struggle and his third one not a lot better BUT he had a good start.

Those three games against London teams you mention were all away and all under lights-and I was at all of them.

Good to see you back... I might have to just post something nonsensically non-factual in future, just so you cannot help yourself but come on to correct me.

Hope you're keeping well?

That’s ancient history. The game is totally different now. Everything from expectations to training, technology to how the game is played. We are not Ipswich circa 1969 or Man U 1985.

Cook has been shown enormous patience. It is not unreasonable to expect a manager with more resources than just about anyone else, to assemble a competitive team, especially in such a rubbish standard league.

At the very least they should be showing signs of improvement and that did look to be the case. Recent games scream false dawn, sadly

I'm going to start a thread about Jack the Ripper just to keep him around I reckon.

Then one about Ipswich in the olden times to seal the deal.
