"We see that the United States has decided that it needs to send US and other Nato troops to Russian borders. This alone should tell us that Russia is the aggressor should be treated sceptically,"

and

"The destabilisation in the entire region comes from the continued eastward expansion of Nato. We need to find peaceful solutions to a complicated conflict of identities and national rights."

I think she's got this arse about tit: there wouldn't be Nato reinforcements if Russia hadn't massed an invasion force on Ukraine's border.

And Russia doing this demonstrates exactly why Eastern European countries were so keen to join Nato! Or would she rather they had no agency to make those decisions?

Granted, Ukraine can probably never join and fingers crossed for it being declared neutral.

Edit: to add a 'nt!

Hey Koonters! I thought of you when I saw this. Just in case you are considering a career change.

Cosplaying as a progressive? Or anything even remotely close to what the country needs?

There are lot more qualified people for that, even on here.

“Labour moderates” 😂

go on admit it - it was the phrase "ready for government" that got you. what's that got to do with politics.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Gmpf.

The Labour Right manifesto:

1. Punch left and punch down.
2. Keep punching left and down.
3. Get paid.
4. Get elected and get paid even more.
5. Don’t get elected, move into lobbying and get paid.
6. Rinse and repeat.

The left call out issues and promote policies.

The right talk about getting “ready for government” for no discernible reason or policies other than getting paid.

If people wanted or needed unimaginative, laissez-faire and posturing soft Tory/LibDem politics, then there’s already soft Tory or LibDem politicians to vote for.

“Get ready for nothing” 😀

Its the Vietnam bit that's the stinger though. I did study that era of history, but have totally forgotten it - would a labour leader have taken us into that war?!

Edti: eek, too many posts - sorry, I'll back off.

LBJ wanted us to commit forces to Vietnam. Wilson refused which led to a fair bit of bad feeling between the US and U.K.

interestingly you've slightly reworded my 1. but entirely accepted the 'that's it' bit.

The Tories also get elected. There’s no inherent value in trying to monopolise and dictate “electability” as a result.

It’s not the badge you think it is, but it does explain the fervour with which you discredit a real alternative and real policies.

Without that, you and your lot have literally nothing to offer.

Knock door to door asking to sign a petition for more police in the wake of police corruption and the recent Sarah Everard case.

That’s all I’ve heard from them this year locally so far. They put a leaflet through my door and didn’t knock. There’s a few political signs in my window that seems to make the canvassers put it through my letterbox and then leg it. They were deffo knocking on other doors as I left my house 5 mins later and passed them.

Tom Hunt canvassers put a thing through my door with photos of him in the local area talking about improvements to local shops, roads and parks.

Now, regardless of the fact I know Hunt’s full of sh1t personally, to your average uninformed voter, I can tell you which option looks more attractive.

The right wing dark money funding GB News alongside the usual rags haven’t even gone in on Starmer yet. The entire political world has shifted on favour of enabling fascism and lies. Labour’s Right didn’t clock this has been in play since Brexit as they were too busy siding with them in Corbyn smearing.

A rude awakening is coming for the opposition when the next GE picks up. Wait until they run with “Muslim Grooming Gang” stories, it’s sat there waiting.

She appears to be completely ignoring that the major driving force behind the current standoff is Putin annexed crimea, because a lot of people in Sevastopol speak Russian or something.

Let's just call it for what it is, Russia continuing to invade Ukraine.

Or the fact that the majority of people in Crimea are ethnic Russians and that Ukraine only gained control over Crimea in 1954 through a symbolic gesture by Khrushchev.

Who do you think is funding Brexit, Farage and co? Same people who advise Boris. Same people gaming social media to get folks to follow antivaxx protests. Same people funding the far right globally.

Open your eyes. Your political hot takes may improve. You may even realise you should stop pushing their agenda with “both sides”.

Oh I don’t know. It’s pretty obvious Starmer would have led us into conflict against Sargon the Great as he formed the Akkadian Empire across Mesopotamia.

If fact I’ve heard it on good authority the Keir was even responsible for integrating the word ‘werre’ into the Old English language, from which our word ‘war’ originated. If that isn’t proof he’s a wrong-un I don’t know what it.

Sarcasm aside, his comments on Stop the War and being pro-NATO in this case seem to have ruffled a few feathers. I don’t know the half of it, but I’d have thought the idea of something like NATO is good in principle. Sure it would be better to eradicate war completely, but that will never happen as long as egotistical maniacs take over countries.

Like most people, I don't want this situation to result in conflict but the West has a duty to support Ukraine against aggression from Putin.

As for Stop The War, I'd have much more respect for them if they weren't selective on which wars and human rights abuses they want to stop.

Once you start becoming an apologist for literal genocide you loop back into the right.

The issue with a lot of these movements lately is the Tankies. The old “Stalin was a good boy who did nothing wrong” crowd who just enjoy a different flavour of boot. I’ve seen a couple of people I know go down the CCP/NI ARE GREAT AND THE WEST LIES holes in recent years and it’s no less batsh1t than Qanon.
