It’s a different question if Russia threatens Estonia or Latvia. US intelligence believes Russia will invade between 13-19 Feb.

Fortunately we have our own supply and the foresight to store as much as we need to see our own people through any potential crisis.

We don't get gas from Russia do we, unlike Germany who are I think quite reliant on them. There is a big problem with Nato as the Yanks basically fund it and are starting to question why. America is far more interested in all things Asia, especially China of course. Since UK left the EU I would wager they are even less bothered about Europe. Look what happened with Yugoslavia, Jacques Poos thought that the Europeans could sort it out but had to rely on UK and USA military - with obviously USA taking more control. Europe has a serious problem in the years ahead as Putin is determined to break it up and USA may lose all interest, especially when Biden kicks the bucket. Whilst UK quite obviously cannot match the fire power of Russia I bet you a pound to a pile of sh1t that The EU will have to rely on UK's superior military, armoury, intelligence and potential financial sanctions to help them out. UK, sick man of Europe? My arse!!

Yes, any reduction of supply will hit the EU more than us directly. It will of course push prices/supply issues to us too. No-one will put troops on the ground, US included. It will be a war of paper and pen for all but the Ukrainians [Post edited 11 Feb 2022 21:21]

Put a colander on the kid's head, give him a broom handle and send him off to the front. It's what mark francois would want.

They won't put troops on the ground*** at this stage but they will have to (or someone will have to) if Russia take some land, wait a while and then expand again. Also, if Putin ever becomes challenged domestically he will advance, advance, advance! ****UK and USA special forces will already be on the floor. Edit - I may be in the minority but I don't think Russia will go for it. They will get something, but not land - at this stage anyway. I might very well be wrong, but I hope not. I’m getting adverts for Bohea Teas. So the advert algorithms must have determined that I’ll be sitting on my bougainvillea draped veranda supping Lapsang Souchong while the proles are led to the slaughter. Fine by me.

Pull that stunt for too long and the Russian economy will crash from lack of revenue.

I don't think Russia will mount a full-scale invasion at this stage. Too messy, too many downsides, too counterproductive. Maybe after another couple of cycles of tension-raising and letting it drop, once everyone has got bored with it all. That's more the way the Soviets worked (bearing in mind when Putin was trained).

I think he may rattle the sabre every other year and then everyone will get so tired of it that he will be given a chunk under some bilateral arrangement (which he will break) and everyone will move on..........until he gets old and decides to take the lot as a last hurrah and to go down as the greatest.

So far, Putin has not shown himself subject to the kind of hubristic overreach which led Hitler, Napoleon and Charles XII to their downfalls.

Yes I agree, at this time. To be honest I don't see anyone going down the world expansion route what with the existence of the weaponry at the big boys disposal. But I suppose nothing is guaranteed.

Spoke to a few Ukrainian clients today who are very much on edge. They said they think Russia will invade early next week and will block all phone signals, all locals are currently buying satellite phones.
