We have cut storage facilities in recent years and ill pay the going rate for gas so it would affect us.

I don't think Russia will mount a full-scale invasion at this stage. Too messy, too many downsides, too counterproductive.

Maybe after another couple of cycles of tension-raising and letting it drop, once everyone has got bored with it all. That's more the way the Soviets worked (bearing in mind when Putin was trained).


Invasion is one thing but you then have to maintain a big enough force of occupation to keep the lid on things. While Russia has assembled capable of mounting an invasion I doubt they could maintain an occupation. They will end of up annexing the area they already occupy in the East of Ukraine.

The biggest potential problem for the EU , and UK /USA, is a mass exodus of Ukrainians seeking asylum.

Yes, any reduction of supply will hit the EU more than us directly.

It will of course push prices/supply issues to us too.

No-one will put troops on the ground, US included. It will be a war of paper and pen for all but the Ukrainians

We don't get gas from Russia do we, unlike Germany who are I think quite reliant on them.

There is a big problem with Nato as the Yanks basically fund it and are starting to question why. America is far more interested in all things Asia, especially China of course. Since UK left the EU I would wager they are even less bothered about Europe.

Look what happened with Yugoslavia, Jacques Poos thought that the Europeans could sort it out but had to rely on UK and USA military - with obviously USA taking more control.

Europe has a serious problem in the years ahead as Putin is determined to break it up and USA may lose all interest, especially when Biden kicks the bucket. Whilst UK quite obviously cannot match the fire power of Russia I bet you a pound to a pile of sh1t that The EU will have to rely on UK's superior military, armoury, intelligence and potential financial sanctions to help them out.

UK, sick man of Europe? My arse!!


The EU is not a military alliance, however much brexiters like to think it is.

I’ve not been keeping myself really up to date but from my limited knowledge Ukrainians and Russians tend to actually get on with one another on a human level. I’m not really sure Ukrainians would be fleeing over the border in the event of a Russian invasion unless Putin has a really bonkers plan to force that situation.

Putin hasn’t been afraid to escalate humanitarian crisis previously but I suspect he’d be mindful that Russians see Ukrainians in a very different light to Kurds and others.

My wife is originally from Ukraine had been here 20 years. This kind of aggressive tactic from Putin has always been a real threat. We were in Ukraine when the plane was shot down.

Speaking with the in laws there it really is worrying, the continued attempts to destabilise everyday life is awful. Schools receiving regular bomb threats, reducing telephone coverage and internet, blocking exports imports at the port in via Crimea and restricting air traffic over Crimea coupled with thousands of troops at the border.
This is literally 3 1/2 hours by plane.

Not sure what's going to happen. Just hoping to get to the Winchester and hope it all blows over🤷‍♂️
