Last Night - North Stand lower 11:12 - Feb 23 with 9002 views | Wallingford_Boy | I've been to a few away games this season, but last night was my first home game (I coach on Saturdays, so cant make it all the way to Ippo in time, don't judge!) I was genuinely shocked by the silence in the North Stand lower! Yes I know away games are always much noisier and yes it was a nervy game, but a big crowd in, team are on a roll.... but no noise. Is that normal?

Last Night - North Stand lower on 23:28 - Feb 23 by AlanG296 | Those of us outside the lower SBR (the vast majority in Attendance) don't watch the game in "peace and quiet". Ridiculous and clueless to say we do. |
The vast majority of fans outside the North lower most certainly do watch the games in peace and quiet (apart from that little knot in the lower Cobbold, who are class). I'm genuinely astonished that you're saying otherwise... Besides, that's not even the point I was making. Read my message propely. If people don't want to jump about and sing, that's cool. Plenty of space for all kinds of supporter. But it's going to take some creative thinking from the club to get all the atmos generators together so they don't disturb the ones who aren't...

Clueless, just because we're not singing does not mean it's "peace and quiet".

Don’t be offended mate, I don’t think he’s criticising any of our fans. However you’d describe it, you get some who prefer to sing and some who prefer not to sing. It would help if the club assisted in enabling those that do want to, that’s all. Plenty of room for what everyone wants etc.

The "Ultras" think we're all 70 and just sit there with our hearing aids off. haha I agree with you Alan. Just because people don't sing every song, doesn't mean its quiet.

You need someone to explain to you what "peace and quiet" means? You really are clueless!

He means if it’s not that, how would you describe it? But let’s keep it civil! 😳

Last Night - North Stand lower on 22:02 - Feb 23 by Slambo | Think you're being a tad harsh there. First half or so was really good, but the atmos mirrored the play on the pitch: raucous and free flowing in the first half, tense and bitty in the second... We really pushed the club on this at the beginning of the season and it was fraught to say the least. We've got a meeting with Mark Ashton next month about it so won't go on about our travails here... At the end of the day, It's a 30,000 seat stadium so there's no reason why we can't have, say, a 200 seat block where the EXPECTATION is that you sing and make noise. This would still allow 28,800 fans to watch the game in peace and quiet. Thanks to all-seater stadia, this needs some organisation and creative thinking, but they managed it at clubs like Crystal Palace, Middlesborough, Huddesfield and even Bradford and Hartlepool, all of whom have vibrant, club supported 'ultra' blocks. Mark Ashton talked about how important a vibrant atmosphere is in selling the club to players, so i'm confident we can come up with a decent long term solution that will benefit everyone... |
I think Cobbold Stand block A would be a good place to have a ‘singing section’. Noise would filter across the SBR stand easily.

I did suggest that as a possible option but O’Leary’s response seemed to suggest that they wouldn’t go for that. Probably because they’ve got plans to redevelop the Cobbold so whilst it makes sense now, they wouldn’t want it there in future. Only guessing/speculating though.

It means the Alan G Ultras suck extra loudly on their Werthers Originals when Ipswich are on the attack. [Post edited 24 Feb 2022 18:56]

Last Night - North Stand lower on 12:00 - Feb 23 by jayessess | "Each person should be able to spend the 90 minutes as they wish" is a weird one to me. Don't we all go to the football because we're desperate to see Ipswich win? Don't we all expect the players to give absolutely everything they have on the pitch for this club? Don't we, the people who reckon we're all Ipswich till we die, who love the club, have an obligation to do everything we can to help it succeed? |
My personal feeling is that football fans overrate to some extent the impact they have on a game. I know players and managers will always say ‘the fans carried us across the line’ ‘the noise was incredible it spurred us on’ which is certainly true to a degree but I think if we think that we have to be singing songs about how we beat Norwich in the 80s and other songs that make their way around every ground in the country with slightly different lyrics for the full 90 minutes to have a game-changing impact on how professional footballers perform then we’re being a little generous. Perhaps at this level it does, I certainly think as you move up to PL and CL level the players couldn’t give a toss if the fans are there or not.
