"Fundraising is a legitimate part of our democratic process and it is not unusual for the Prime Minister, or any political leader, to attend such an event."

No it isn't. It is illegitimate and subverts our democracy. Private capitalists and foreign governments are paying money to get something in return. It is clientelism, which is a form of corruption.

“Private capital tends to become concentrated in few hands, partly because of competition among the capitalists, and partly because technological development and the increasing division of labour encourage the formation of larger units of production at the expense of smaller ones. The result of these developments is an oligarchy of private capital the enormous power of which cannot be effectively checked even by a democratically organized political society. This is true since the members of legislative bodies are selected by political parties, largely financed or otherwise influenced by private capitalists who, for all practical purposes, separate the electorate from the legislature. The consequence is that the representatives of the people do not in fact sufficiently protect the interests of the underprivileged sections of the population. Moreover, under existing conditions, private capitalists inevitably control, directly or indirectly, the main sources of information (press, radio, education). It is thus extremely difficult, and indeed in most cases quite impossible, for the individual citizen to come to objective conclusions and to make intelligent use of his political rights.” - Einstein

Still going on. Still ignored every election. Still a huge issue. Time we wake up and realise that there are fundamental issues in the way we structure our "democracy". From first past to post to people buying political influence ("donations").

Listened to an excellent podcast about Oligarchs and the wealth protection industry the other day. Think you might enjoy it: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/what-is-an-oligarch/id1042631089?i=1000554

If he didn't want the comparison to be implied by anyone interpreting his speech, he need not have mentioned Brexit at all at that point - he could have just stuck with the example of Brits choosing to get vaccinated in large numbers - which is actually a better example as it does imply fighting an existential threat - in Brexit, no such existential threat was present as far as I'm aware....

yes I think he was crass. but at no point did he say that brexit was comparable to fighting a war against russia - which is what has been reported, and which would have been infinitely worse. you may disagree with him, i do, when he claims brexit is an expression of the love of freedom, but that's no reason for what he actually said to misrepresented.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

I look forward to normal service returning and you attacking the left with this type of stuff rather than deflecting it for Boris Bloody Johnson. 😂

listening to the speech, do you think he compared brexit to fighting a war? if you don't, are you happy to let misreporting go just because it's convenient?

utter bollox !

Where is the freedom for UK folk to now live, and work abroad. Even to take their pets back and forth.

Freedom for students to travel, and study abroad - and foreign students to visit and study in the UK

Freedom for UK businesses to import and exports free from all the petty fogging regulations, checks and hold ups at the borders Brexit has brought in.

The only freedom we see is for employers to cut wages and conditions. Even Rees-Mogg and Redwood advised their clients to get out of the UK before brexit.

It is not them that are the real problem. They are representing their interests - but forelock tuggers like you, who act as useful idiots. Thickos who believe that you will improve your lot by allowing your betters more of the cake as that will mean more crumbs will fall from their table.

Odd how the Ukrainians don't see isolation and a withdrawal from global trade as being in their interest. They want to join the EU.

Considering the tens of thousands of times he was "misreported" by the Torygraph, Daily Fail, Shun etc. in a way that favoured him & enabled him to get away with sh1ttery such as Brexsh1t, corrupt procurements etc etc. I don't think you're going to find anyone who'll cut him any slack whatsoever on what *might* be one misrepresentation in 3 years that actually works aginst him.

No, I think it’s a massive exaggeration waved through by a media that now has Johnson in its sights.

Which the media could and really should have done at any time during the past couple of decades. It seems it needs the recent confected outrage of the parties, the smear against Starmer and this misrepresentation to even attempt to hold Johnson to account.

Unfortunately, I’ve seen the same and an awful lot worse aimed at the left for a lot longer. You’ve been one of the absolute worst culprits too. So enjoy your double standards when they’re pushing right for once.

they'll be telling us Johnson took money from a son of a KGB agent, and made him a Lord next

no connection there whatsoever, absolutely
