Women’s team 21:31 - Mar 20 with 5138 views | Reuser_is_God | Watched about 15 minutes today & it was utterly horrendous. How some of those are paid professionals is beyond me, genuinely no better than Sunday league standard. Given the hype around them I thought it would be half decent. [Post edited 20 Mar 2022 21:32]

Women’s team on 09:41 - Mar 21 by peterleeblue | I've been assistant referee on a number of Woman's games and can assure that the standard is a lot higher than on offer yesterday. I felt Town set up to avoid a thumping and as a result offered little up front. Confidence remains intact and Town can set about getting into the Womens Championship where the standard is decent. They will need to play on a better surface than yesterday. I also refereed an early FA Cup Round Hartlepool v Leeds United and whilst quality was ok the commitment and effort from both sides made it a challenge to officiate and relatively watchable for the crowd of about 200. Top level WSL and Internationl football is very good IMHO. |
With the bookies odds on the game, Ipswich were 50/1 to get the victory I saw somone post on Twitter - that is the gap between the two sides. San Marino are probably shorter odds when they play England, or at least comparable. We couldn't go toe to toe, and whilst it's not easy to people need to disassociate mens and womens sport - they are totally different because men have a huge physiological advantage. I bet some, on the other thread especially, will have spent half their weekend outraged at the Trans swimmer that won the event in the US at the weekend as men and women don't compare physiologiacally and then wonder why women's sport is vastly different to mens.

That trans swimmer thing is absolutely nuts - in fact it is so nuts that I fully expect any thread on TW4TD would be fully supportive of it. IMHO the "Biological" women should stand on their blocks stationary and refuse to dive in and compete when faced with this situation.

I fully agree, and whilst not wanting to derail the thread too much, if people want women's football to be more like men's then that is what they are asking for

Should have disbanded the entire club under Evans if profit is the aim. Lol.

Getting into the Championship is far too difficult though, right? Winning the current league is far from given right now. Even if they do manage that fantastic achievement, I understand they then have to win a playoff Vs the winner of the northern half? Have I got that right? Promotion really should be easier than that!

It does seem limited doesn't it. Win your league and still cant go up. The women's game is growing massively at Grass Roots level. I would expect 4 full National divisions within 10 years. I am currently Tutoring a Basic Refs course and 8 out of the 25 delegates are 16-18 year old girls!!

Correct. Crucial home matches coming up against Oxford and Southampton are key to the first challenge.

Women’s team on 01:07 - Mar 21 by Illinoisblue | Wonder how much gamechanger are paying to fund the women’s team. However much it is, I’m sure it’s a tiny blip on their overall ITFC budget. That said, how much sense does it make to subsidise a piece of your portfolio that will never ever make money. It’s hard to equate playing to a couple hundred people in Felixstowe to a fully professional outfit. |
If they get to the WSL, which they will in the next 5 years, then it's incredibly worthwhile tbf.

There seems to be a real 'project' that everyone is buying into. Really impressive that a team mostly made up of 18/19 year olds did so well yesterday against a solid WSL outfit. We seem to have a core of young ladies there that have played a lot of football together and are keen to continue that journey together. despite probably having options to be at clubs higher up the pyramid?

Absolutely, and its also engaging with a wider section of the local community who maybe will also support the mens team Having the top womens team in the region can only be good

I've only been to the one ITFC Women's match, away at Keynesham. Would say it was a much better game than what I saw on TV yesterday (only the second half). Perhaps it was the disparity in level (WH full-timers, Ipswich training just three days a week and in their first season with professional players), plus the youth of many of Town's squad, but we were unable to use the attacking talent (passing, runs down the wings) which was on display in the League. Even despite this, ITFCW put up a strong defensive performance.

Because pension funds generally like to make money and not give it away.

Women’s team on 17:56 - Mar 21 with 486 views | happybeingblue | The pitch was terrible which does not help in progress or development of players and you have to remember the womens game is still in its infancy, with more girls encouraged to play and with good coaching you will definetly see progression across the board, i have been watching the england womens team for a good few years now and the levels have improved significantly. its all about the game getting the chance to develop and be supported which it will, most of the itfc girls were 17-19 years old,i for one was proud that they reached this stage of the fa cup and they represented itfc superbly, bit disappointing to read negative comments maybe think before you post!

When it was banned in 1921, women's football was attracting very significant crowds (10,000s) and it currently attracts significant (and rising) attendances in the United States. Nothing out of this world (20k average for Portland Thorns). In England Women's Super League teams don't get massive crowds, but enough to be commercially viable (average 3400 in last pre-Covid season). If it does take off then it'll be easier to take advantage if Ipswich already have infrastructure and a brand. That's before you get to the intangible benefits to the club as a whole (it's good PR).
