Rekeem Harper was going to be a beast and was a massive improvement on Andre Dozzell.

Kool Aid drinkers, every one.

What I love about the below story is the description of the type of player he was thought to be.

Then you remember he was planted as a 2nd defensive midfielder next to Evans. And then PC realised 2 months later when he played him as a 10 that he may better suited up the pitch...

"He is probably more of an offensive midfield player than one that will sit in and screen and deny"

Harper has been very disappointing so far and there is still time for him to come good.

However, has Dozzell been any better either? 25 appearances, 0 goals, 1 assist and 1 red card for QPR so far. I guess he is getting pitch time so must be doing something more than Harper is.

It stands to reason that it is likely that a player signed for money by a Championship club should be better than one signed as part of a bloated squad in League 1. However, I am not sure that Dozzell has, so far, proven the point you are making any more than Harper does on his own.

I mean, at 22 Dozzell's a squad player for the team 8th in the Championship, whilst we start a 23-year-old midfielder discarded by the team in 18th. I like Bakinson, but let's not pretend we upgraded there.

Looking forward to the next installment of 'I told you' or 'all those people who thought'

Hindsight is a marvelous thing.

Some people on here thought when Norwood was brought back and scored he was going to be a regular until the end of the season and would be scoring for fun.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

I am quite sure that in the long term Dozzell will prove to be decent value for money which means Harper will have his work cut out to match him.

Bakinson is no more than a squad player here, either. I am sure he is no better than Dozzell, but I am not convinced he is any worse either. The money QPR paid is about potential with Dozzell. We don't get that potential with Bakinson as he is only a loan. I would imagine he is currently giving us as much as I would have expected from Dozzell were he to be playing for us this season.

The comparison originally was Harper v Dozzell anyway. And, as I said, you don't really need to compare with Dozzell to see that, so far, Harper is a very disappointing signing. As is Edwards so far.

This is why you should never pretend to know it all…

I’m proud id not heard of a single player we signed in the summer.

Not even Celina? Had Mick totally switched you off by that point that it was all just a bad dream?

Whilst he has failed to impress at Crewe, they are bottom of the league! To be fair to Harper, his run of games at Town came when we were all over the shop in terms of shape. The rigid 4231 constantly saw the central midfielders overrun, chasing shadows and drawn out of position. He has never once played (certainly hardly ever) with Morsy who improves everyone who plays alongside him. Cook didn't have a clue what to do with the players he had.
Harper clearly has talent alongside physique and he is very raw. Maybe it's a concern that McKenna loaned him out rather than keep him at PR to coach him but we may see a far more effective Harper next season. Don't write him off yet!

Depends what way around you want to read it I guess. I thought he was a large part of the reason we looked so disjointed those first half a dozen games. He had no defensive discipline, played risky balls in dangerous areas and looked quite leggy and heavy. It's interesting Crewe fans say the same thing.

Not writing him off but if Bakinson does come in permanently, as seems likely, I don't see much future for him here.
