Didn’t their last drummer die too? Overdose at V Chelmsford..? Or am I going senile.
In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
I am truly gobsmacked to hear this. Taylor always seemed so full of life in all the interviews he did. He loved talking about drums and drumming. I won't pretend I'm the biggest Foos fan, but as a dtummer, I couldn't fail to be imppressed with his skills. He was a powerhouse with a great feel. Incredible energy. It sounds like the band are mid tour and this is really going to hurt, given the closeness a tour brings. 50 is no age (younger than me now) and so sad.
Absolutely stunned by this. One of only a few recent drummers to stand out as a genuine showman and yet so humble off the stage. This BBC master class (more of an interview) was exceptional.
It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

I listened to that again on 6 music last night. He's so articulate and knowledgable. The inteview is a joy. I thought it was particularly poignant when he was asked about his favourite meal on tour. He replied coconut water and banana, as he wanted to "get the potasium back in". We don't know his demons, but it's sad he didn't take that advice last week.
Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

I met him and Dave Grohl way back when at a music festival. Taylor Hawkins was so friendly and enthusiastic (especially considering he really didn't have to give me and my band the time of day)

Enjoyed that thanks. The poor sod. Very poignant when he talked about the need to look after yourself as you get older as a drummer; something that’s probably not so easy if you’ve a history of drug abuse (I could well be off here & happy to be corrected, but it sounds like he had history and had a cocktail of drugs in him when he died).
Must admit I’ve never really followed the Foo Fighters but he seemed like a decent bloke. Scary how young they look now looking back, when at the time it seemed DG had already been through so much after Nirvana. I also didn’t realise DG was still doing most of the studio drumming for the first 2 or 3 albums, even if he gave way to someone else when touring.

Fun fact… I made this master class 👌

I think they'll be back. Taylor himself came into replace Bill Goldsmith didnt he?
I think they'll have a hiatus - maybe be back in a year or two.
I hope they'll be back and, as you say, maybe after a year or two break (not just for the band members but all the families and crew) to try and come to terms with this may mean they have a change of heart. I wouldn't think it would be easy though.
Didn't Bill Goldsmith leave after a dispute with the band hence Taylor came in?
When I saw us play MK Dons away a couple of months ago there was a Town fan in the lower tier with a Foo Fighters bobble hat on two or three rows in front of me!

Yeah I dont think Grohl rated him much and didnt like his drumming on the Colour And The Shape recordings. Grohl ended up doing the drum tracks himself which pissed Goldsmith off. So I dont think he will be back for a second stint in the band!

When the time comes for them to get their heads around it, perhaps Richard from Manchester will get a look in or perhaps Nandi Bushell if she were a little older. Would be classic Grohl to do something like that
