Blimey, he's a young lad. Do you play football and not make mistakes? The fact he's playing in front of 26,000, do you think he might be a little nervous making his second league start? That's why he's got the experienced players around him to help him. I'd be more disappointed if they didn't encourage and support him.

Agreed.

He looks very much like he could bring the ball forward (like Woolfie) once he’s got bedded into the team. We need someone on that left side of the back three who is comfortable on the ball . I’m not sure Edmundson or Burgess possess that ability , when considering the type of team McKenna is looking to build. But of course Baggott is still very young.

He lacked a bit of experience in 3 scenarios in the second half,
One of which almost led to a Charlton goal.

Wolf and Morsy having to direct him heavily at times, and he also lacked a little confidence in moving forward.

BUT, he looks an amazing prospect and first half I was thinking sell Burgess and do we even need Edmundson?!?

But those few wobbles made me think he needs League One games (or at least League Two), but perhaps we can’t risk that being with us.

Ndaba makes even more competition.

Edmundson, Burgess, Ndaba and Baggott probably is too much for that one slot. I think a decision is going to have to be made there.

I think the thing about Baggot is he’s probably an understudy for both Edmundson AND Wolfenden as he can play that central role

But having just watched the highlights there is a moment of real inexperience that almost cost us (as well as a great moment of mopping up)

Most of the backline probably has enough versatility that you can just count the total number of centre backs, rather than assign people to slots. Edmundson could play in the centre and on the right if needed.

We've gone with 4 senior and 1 youth since January, I imagine that's all McKenna thinks he needs (especially if we've trained with KVY there). It's probably a question of where Ndaba fits in our pecking order when we've had a good look at his progress in pre-season, whether anyone wants to reimburse us for Burgess and finally if we think Baggott's development benefits more from going out on loan.

It's funny how people view things.

I read Victor's post as an observation, not a criticism.

He clearly likes Baggot and is saying the seniors stepped up to support him as they should but that the goalie could have instructed him further.

Can't see any need for the insults tbh.

You could tell he was a bit nervous, and understandably so in a virtually full stadium, but he grew into the game well and looked pretty composed on the ball. I think he’ll become a very good player.

Burgess is the one that perhaps now looks the most vulnerable. We’re quite lucky to have that many options for those 3 places. Ndaba will surely want to kick on and be involved more next season after his loan at Salford? It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

You could probably find Ndaba a L1 loan off the back of this season, but at some point you probably have to make a firm decision either way as to whether you see him in our first team any time soon.

Burgess definitely the most vulnerable, unless it becomes useful to cash in on someone. If we need £3m and it's Edmundson or Burns, there's only one winner for me...

He certainly seems like he’s had a good campaign up there. KM really will have a tough call to make, but a good position to be in as a manager.

We need edmundson. Brilliant pace at the back.

Your summary did sound a little harsh, mistakes without actually conceding during a fun winning game....

8/10

The style is different but more significantly there's been no boobies.

Edmundson and Burgess are first two picks.

Baggott will likely go out on loan to get regular football. He is a great prospect but is not close enough yet to regularly get game time, so best to go out on loan.

Nbada has a chance to impress in pre-season. He could be squad cover for CB and LB. Not sure what he is like as a LWB though, which may be our formation.

You can't help be impressed with how calm he is in possession, he distribution and decision making is good. Physically he is opposing.

Stockley tried to exploit his lack of experience and is a decent target man at this level.

He's 19, he's going to make mistakes but if he carries on developing he's going to be a real prospect

Thought Baggott did OK but a bit lightweight in some situations, maybe a loan to Salford for next season ? Mick Mills was talking about Edmundson and Burgess not fitting into our three at the back system and Baggott being a better fit. We played a back four when JD went off, will we do this next season?

He would benefit from a season-long loan in League 1, if it can be arranged, At a club where he would be pushing for first team selection.

He's going to have a good future I think but is definitely not ready ready for league 1 every week. 2 big chances for Charlton came via his weakness when battling it out with a player. He had similar issues on his league debut. It got better as the game when on but he doesn't seem to jump at times and appears to have limited upper body strength.

Definitely a league 2 loanee next season

a niche perspective
