What a brave, awesome guy he is.
No doubt he will be subjected to abuse for a while and he's no doubt accepted that will sadly be the case, but he will hopefully be the role model he says he wants to be and be a small step at the start of real change.
When sexist abuse and racist abuse is still so rife in the game, even though it's so much better than it was, it's an obvious stick that morons will use to try and unsettle him with or throw at him.
But massive credit to him, to Blackpool and to have that pressure of being so early into his career and taking such a massive step is incredible. The only way prejudice will eventually be stamped out as much as possible is presumably visibility, inspiring others to do the same and allowing it to be commonplace and rightly accepted by future generations. The type of people that will be bothered by this are beyond changing sadly.

Have to disagree sadly. Quite a few on twitter are saying things in the line of "I don't care if he's gay but why did he feel the need to announce it? Players personal lives should be private." Not abusive as such but missing the point that gay people shouldn't have to hide who they are. |

I'd say it would be far easier for him to secure a career if he hadn't spoken out and wanted to truly be himself.
If he doesn't make it at Blackpool, there will sadly be clubs who are owned or managed by people that simply wont look at him. Shouldn't happen but you only have to consider if the Crawley allegations end up being true, how easy it is for people to still hold such feelings and not to shout about them, given that some actually freely admit their prejudices.
I can't imagine, if he ends up being nowhere near good enough, that clubs will be queuing up to offer him a contract and place in League One or Two so they can have a taken gay player.
Clubs will take all their decisions from a business perspective and if he's not good enough he will be out of the game. His admission will make it much harder for him to succeed than it will make his life easier or career more lucrative. | | | |
