splitting the country in two. We've become a very fractious nation haven't we. It isn't going to take much, especially with the economic situation, for the touch paper to be lit. I fear a riotous summer. The togetherness of lockdown has gone.

The country is split into the normal folk and the thickos.

Sat outside in a Pub garden Sunday when we were joined by an acquaintance of one of our group.

He starts whinging about the 'illegals', but has not heard of the Dublin Agreement, cannot explain the difference between the EU Parliament, Commission or Council, and even argues that the ECHR is run by the EU.

This was spread over about 20 mins. Thankfully he was asked to leave, which he did. But not before telling us that it was 'our sort' who were ruining our country.

He was what someone else had described elsewhere, as the 'bigot at the BBQ'. They also seem very angry, especially when you point out they are wrong. Stating that there are too many immigrants in the country is an opinion. Claiming that the ECHR is part of the EU is wrong.

We need to work out what causes this angry 'rightiness'. Maybe find a charity, like Cancer UK, and look into what seems to be some kind of illness.

Is it genetic ? Nature or nurture ?

Scandinavians countries are almost free of this sickness. The US and Canada are close, yet Canada hasn't the stupidity that is so widespread in the US.

Those doctors, microbiologists etc who done such amazing work developing a vaccine for Covid should now turn their attention towards a cure for 'rightiness'. If not, maybe something that can calm them down, and then not have so much anger, and ignorance.

As far as I can see, he wasn’t talking about “minorities” as in non white tanned folk but minorities as is stupid arses that try and win the internet and make themselves look as cool as feck.

Of course I stand to be corrected.

Very possibly LL, but that would be a very interesting use of the word "minorities" which I personally have not seen before - I also am not saying that Pangloss was talking about non-white folk as "minorities", but was rather thinking of people who make it awkward for the majority after years of oppression/ridicule/discrimination by said majority, and by inference, saying it wasn't a good thing...but of course I could be wrong...

Odd that, given the immigration is far higher now than in 2016. Maybe people believe the headlines rather than the facts?

Only going to continue to be a vote winner as long as they continue to make sure it is a problem.

'Sorry you're not interested in the misfortune of other people, including our own living on the street. You can see how it's divisive when some of you don't give a sh1t about anyone but yourself'.

The words above are what Jeera posted about me. If you call that 'civil' then yes - the decision I made months ago to only post occasionally was the correct one.
Any of us not supportive of the 'Famous Five' (it might be the 'Unmagnificent Seven') are always considered racist, thick, uneducated, greedy, etc, etc; it is little wonder therefore that occasionally we might just put over our opinion. Heat/Kitchen - Pot/Kettle/Black - etc all spring to mind.
Must retire to bed - I'm helping others tomorrow - it is so therapeutic and I will meet folk who do with a smile on their faces work for £10 an hour that I wouldn't and couldn't do for £50 an hour!

The country has been divided for as long as I can recall, all the way back to the 70's. But it wasn't black and white before like it is now, there were a plethora of different shades of grey in between the two.

Now, if you don't agree with someone, you are 100% against them. Its sad.

I blame the old social media, and the young fkers.

I agree with that completely till the last sentence. I think the 'old media', run by murdoch etc, and stoking up the views of older people (people like my parents) is a bigger problem.

Your no shades of grey point is spot on though, there can be no middle ground any more, little accepting or discussion of differing views, you're either with us or against us etc etc. I find it hugely frustrating.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

I will put my voluntary work for those less fortunate than myself against yours anytime. As usual you want a 'war' of words - little wonder that nations do not get on. Jeera, I challenge you with £50 to a charity of your choice, to prove that I do not care about the misfortune of other people and only care about myself. The condition of course is that you must contribute £50 to the charity of my choice when you are proved wrong. The charity is Sue Ryder.
Try being civil and accepting of others opinions......

are you accepting that challenge Jeera?

Your definition of civil is very different to mine.
