Another day another journalist owned by Mick Lynch on 01:11 - Jun 24 by bluebudgie | I agree it's getting to the stage now where this forum has become a left-wing echo chamber and god help you if you have a different opinion from the rabid left-wing keyboard warriors that frequent this page. I'm shocked Phil puts up with the bullying and insults, to be honest ..This board is not a nice place and I think I will stick to football posts in the future. |
What a load of garbage. This forum is steadily moving to the right on a daily basis, the idea that it's a left wing eco chamber is farcical. The creep of frankly awful views under the banner of "but both sides" or " false equivalences" is almost a daily occurrence and one that your post voting shows you endorse. The real problem is that many don't want their views challenged and heaven forbid be presented with evidence that shows their opinions to be fallacious or upsetting. SB

"The real problem is that many don't want their views challenged and heaven forbid be presented with evidence that shows their opinions to be fallacious or upsetting." Does this also apply to the likely severity of Omicron, unexpected consequences of QE and the merits of Celina's complete game? All areas where you have shown a clear reluctance to have your views challenged because essentially you are always entirely confident that you are correct. This whole binary impact of social media thing cuts both ways Stokie. Anyway, I'll leave it at that for today due to your sensitivity about me responding to you from the naughty step.

I feel bad I ruined his day with just a few words, i don’t actually consider myself left wing, I just pointed out a few things I’ve noticed about those who are vehemently right wing, I didn’t even mention him it was a generalisation and he goes all Piers Morgan on me. I blame myself for baiting him, it seemed easy. Probably not too grown up on my part as he seems a bit vulnerable.

Good stuff. Mick looks beyond the narrative. I don’t necessarily agree with him on everything e.g. Brexit but he’s demonstrably better than the vast majority of politicians and pundits at seeing the world as it is. Almost the complete opposite to Luke Akehurst as a matter of fact who’s only ever had an agenda of weaponising narratives and acting in bad faith.

The last paragraph is stupid. The stuff about Ukraine is fair comment. Just because Russia's invasion is catastrophic and wrong on every level, it doesn't necessarily follow that Ukraine is impeccably behaved. Nothing is ever black and white. The Russian-friendly Ukrainian president was ousted in what amounted to a coup in 2014.

His work on the cost of living and strikes has been excellent but that doesn’t make his worldview any less disturbing.

Agreed. But I think the last para is spot on. We wring our hands at slave labour on the other side of the world but haven’t done anything like enough to stop worker exploitation at home. And the real comparison that Akehurst editorialises away (important to note that Akehurst’s actual paid job is to promote/apologise for Israel), is that we’ll complain about Uyghur oppression but ignore or even excuse Palestinian oppression because Israel is our strategic partner. Ditto Saudi Arabia’s human rights crimes for the same reason. Lynch isn’t really pointing out double standards. But a lack of standards when power, influence and money come into play.

It’s only disturbing if you haven’t been looking. These are complex issues and the monolithic, “accepted” narrative is pretty narrow and ultimately a fantasy on its own.

I don't think the persecution of the Uighurs and whatever the situation is in Leicester are comparable.

Of course. Not on their own. That’s Akehurst editorialising though. The real comparison Lynch makes is with Palestinian oppression and our shameful apologism for it.

We'd have to see the interview verbatim to be certain, i.e. we need to see the question that provoked the answer "Slave labour is happening in Leicester". The author of the piece would have to be totally immoral to have paraphased a totally different question.

Sure. But he appears from the article to have been asked a question about the Uyghurs being used for slave labour. Which he connects to both Leicester and Palestine – and he certainly has a point. Akehurst’s bad faith editorialising is further from what Lynch is saying in the article that’s linked right below. That’s how shonky and yet brazen these clowns are.

Leicester was illegal criminal slavery. Uyghurs is state sponsored slavery. He’s conflating two entirety different things. “Look over there a squirrel”.

Lynch responded to a question by picking out not just one but two inconsistencies and sets of double standards. Akehurst editorialised it down to just one, building a strawman to dismiss and ridicule Lynch's real points. Akehurst is a dishonest, right-wing clown. He's basically just like Glassers, lowhouse and, increasingly it seems, you. Never go full Luke Akehurst.
