Tory Resignations Thread: Day 2 on 12:16 - Jul 6 with 1006 views | ringwoodblue | I don’t trust any politicians irrespective of the political party they represent. At the end of the day, most of them are liars who put their own interests ahead of others. Explains why I haven’t voted for 20 years with the exception of the Brexit referendum. I’m sure there are some good honest hard-working politicians around but not enough of them.

I used to share your views but came to realise. There are a large number of politicians who are genuinely in it to do good. There are a larger number of politicians who are genuinely in it to do good that don't turn down some of the perks that come with it. There are a massive number of politicians who have no interest in doing good and it's all about how they can monetise it for themselves and their mates. You just have to do a bit of proper looking to find the first group and then realise that the best you can hope to vote into power is probably the middle group, because those solely in the first group are never likely to rise to power without having accepted becoming the second group.

Interestingly, whilst all of what you say is relevant, I was listening to a podcast with Rory Stewart and he said the only one in the cabinet with any backbone or morality was Javid. He's just finished the cabinet in that speech, Raab looked like me sat when Norwich put 5 past us at home.

As I said earlier, it's like the one out of all your kidnappers that brings you water and a sandwich. They are still complicit in plotting the kidnap, bundling you into a van, tying you up and beating you. But they are then to be applauded for not wanting to go quite as far as the others, when all they are doing is getting ready for a plea bargain by going to the cops and grassing up the others if they agree to go easy on them.

The only Tory I've ever had time for is Stewart. He said he'd resign if Boris was made PM and then did so. He speaks eleven languages, has real world experience, was a soldier (so prepared to put himself in harms way) and does charity work. Perhaps my favourite thing about him was that 'he attended a single meeting of the Bullingdon Club before resigning after witnessing the behaviour of other members'. Clearly a different sort from the usual Tory. No doubt that's why they chose Boris over him. [Post edited 6 Jul 2022 13:57]

Quite possibly, but let’s not pretend any other MPs regardless of their political stance aren’t in it for themselves. I must admit, I was saying the same as you last night, they know what BJ is like, why continually back him when they know what’s happening and turn a blind eye to certain things? For me, Javid’s personal message hit the right note and set the correct tone, it summed up how the nation is now feeling about BJ and this Tory party under his leadership and whether it is for personal gain he still delivered it in manner which is in keeping with many up and down our country.

He would be crippled, as all it would take was for enough Tories to vote against, or simply abstain in any legislative vote. Any confidence motion put forward in the house risks the 14 day 'grace period' falling into the summer recess. The problem the Tories have is that Johnson is not the brightest. Strip away the idiot props and you have someone on par, brainwise, with Dorries, Rees-Mogg or Fabricant. Anyone else would see that the game was long up, and would get out on good terms. The problem is many, elevated to a position way above their abilities, have a habit of believing their own publicity. And surrounding yourself with sycophants (as above) only furthers that delusion. The longer this lasts the more damage gets done to the Tory Party, and what is left of the boaters limited reputation...........what a shame [Post edited 6 Jul 2022 14:54]
