Early Millwall match update 15:13 - Jul 23 with 3359 viewsunstableblue

Away kit looks good on the players

We look the Championship team, with far superior passing and movement

Wolfenden an lad Edmundson look very assured

Ladapo has a presence

Harness touch has been a bit loose

Penney just doesn’t cut it for me

We have had the ball in there half a lot… but same old issue after 13mins of not enough players forward and limited ideas in the final third

Overall quite encouraging- but need more bite

Poll: How do you rate the new home kit out of 5?

Already obvious this won't be the 11 next week. Evans well off the pace. In fact no one is staking a claim for the starter.

You are expecting a completely different 11?

Or you think Ball will be fit, replace Evans and that will make all the difference?

Well I thought we looked pretty good. Grew into the game as the half went on.

We did start to look more comfortable but we're struggling to make any headway down the flanks, which hamstrings us quite severely.

Celina lmao?

Celina exactly. Look at a lot of our goals last season
He is involved. Good passing, moment and moves ball forward.

We look exactly the same as last season, only worse because Burns is miles off it and we've lost our most creative player. McKenna struggled to make progress in attack over 23 games and I've not seen anything in pre-season to suggest we've improved in that area over the last couple of months. Most of those games have been against much better opposition than we'll face in the league so I'm not going to get too worried yet, but I expected to see something a bit different.

A strong attacking prescence yet no idea what to do with it does not sound 'encouraging' at all. It's exactly the same as last season which we all hated lol

Based on the season before we had Fraser which didn't end up well. So no possibly wouldn't make a difference. It might do. It might not. Shame he's asking for more than the club can afford otherwise we'd get to find out.

That's not an accurate comparison so given Celina already played for us last season and the stats are based on him playing us.

And that's similar to how he was playing at the beginning of last season and why Cook bombed him out... but hey, that was a stick used to beat Cook with.. might have had something to do with the fact he was playing poorly and costing the team..

A lot of the time people think Woolfenden is better than what he is, as he came through the academy... he's too easily caught

Why is it not. You're basing it on the season before. Fraser had great stats and was high on a lot of lists. the season before.

a niche perspective

I haven't seen much to be encouraged by yet... we look unusually disjointed.

Millwall are obviously the Championship team.

Also, for balance, Penney has done absolutely nothing wrong. To single him out for criticism is very strange.

"Penney has done absolutely nothing wrong. To single him out for criticism is very strange."

He's our left back, we've written into most of their contacts that they have to be the scapegoat for most things. Only Mings and Cresswell didn't have it in their contract.

You're being disingenuous now.

Comparing a player coming from outside the club with no knowledge of the club or players to one who played for the club the previous season and achieved those stats playing for the club is clearly a false comparison.

If you can't see this then I can't help you.

What a load of blubbing about a pre season friendly against a Champioship side. We’re playing well.

Not getting disheartened as we know friendlies are mainly about fitness and minutes in the legs.

That said, I struggle to agree with your “quite encouraging” comment. - On a footballing perspective think we’ve been extremely poor, so sloppy, I’ve lost count the amount of loose passes giving the ball away.

Surprised at how many long-balls we made in that half, not what we’d got accustomed to under McKenna, especially with how physical Millwall are. Burns has been non-existent. The only two players who have come off that half with okay performances were Evans and Ladapo, in my opinion.

Hopefully getting the mistakes and sloppiness out of our system before next week, let’s not forget how organised Millwall are and how many teams struggle against them. Not that it really matters, but hoping for an improved second half!

Credit where it’s due, second half was absolutely miles better. The five sub rule is going to benefit us massively this season, being able to bring the likes of Jackson, Aluko, Edwards all with fresh legs against smaller squads.

Overall, a competitive run out against a good, organised side.

See. 2nd half we should have won that. We’ll be fine.
