Bolton still the same thuggish , shytehousery team I see ! 17:53 - Jul 30 with 5259 viewsArnieM

The football team nearly won it and should have done. Apart from their diving con of a penalty and corners ( thisisn’t rugby or hockey Bolton!!) they did very little to make Walton move .
Much to be positive about today I think .

How astute of you! And the6 are STILL playing the same thuggish way. There’s not an ounce for football in them .

First half they looked like a perfectly good football team to me. The pen was a pen, however stupid it was to concede. We gave as good as we got physically as well. There were a few of our challenges we were lucky to get away with, and they reckoned there was a foul leading up to our equaliser. So all in all I don’t think either team can feel hard done by from the officials. We were far more our own worst enemy today.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Long season eh….let’s hope we can keep consistent. I’m loving our overall style of play now. We’ve come a long way since 12 months ago I think 👍

Lol , I hope you used the term “ football” as a loose term where they were concerned..

I will say their high pressing game was very good for the first 29mins and then they s8mp,y ran out of steam ( or the plane 2as for 9ne l 20mins of high pressure? )… but once we started to get into our game and play the ball around , that was ( form me anyway), when their physicality went up sev3al notches.

I realise this is how it is , in this division, and as long as Ive watched Town play, we have NEVER dealt with any side that adopts the more “ physical” approach. It is up to us ,( I agree with others on here about that), that we must try to do battle with these teams . We all know that. But I still maintain, that the refs have their part to play in controlling the level of “ challenges” ring metered out. Bolton took out several of our players. This frankly was all they appeared good at. But the ref on,y booked one of their players in that first half.

Do we get street poise and start rolling around like our opponents then? Is that what we want t9 see Town do. If yioucan’t beat it, do likewise? Not sure I’d like us to be like Bolton, Whycombe, et al. But unfortunately I think that’s what we will be watching a lot of at PR this season. I just hope we can overcome it.

Just my views fellas, nothing more sinister than that.

“For as long as I have watched Town” How long is t,hat? By the way I am confused by the term “ street poise “

I just want town to get out of league 1 and if that's morsy rolling around after having his ear whispered into then so be it.

Sides have shown and got promoted with certain antics. We can moan about them all we like, but we are still sat in league 1. Why can't we play the football we want whilst matching sides with certain aspects. When we are 1-0 up.. absolutely go down with cramp etc. Do what ever it takes to win games of football and get us promoted.

a niche perspective

They were certainly physical. Liked a good cuddle too.

Apart from the pen they really didnt trouble Walton, but they did defend very well. If we were more clinical i front of goal we would have won it comfortably. But we werent so we didnt.

They weren’t that bad in fairness.

They started the game very well. They were never going to keep that pressing going though. They are a very good side.

We were fantastic 2nd half. A couple of mistakes at the back and as expected a few misunderstandings between our new players with runs but on the whole very impressive. It’s early days but there is no way we’ll finish outside the top 3/4 teams in this league.

The amount of time wasting in the second half was embarrassing, every goal kick and substitution was painful to watch.

That said they all seem to do it in this league, but expected Bolton to be better than that.

You cant ignore Bolton's part in that. Though they barely troubled us in our half I thought they defended excellently.

You can play very well and not score. Opening game and it took time to settle. Fought back after going behind. Dominated and created a number of chances against a very good side and were very unlucky not to score. We will get better with games.

If a half where we failed to score can be described as fantastic, have to wonder what superlative they would use if we actually scored.

Scoring is a fundamental part of playing football, without scoring, how you play is irrelevant.

Their goalie throwing the ball behind the goal most times we got a corner was very weird.

The time wasting thing needs to be confronted and rules changed. I don't know how but its starting to ruin the games for me. haha

We finish above Bolton this season we'll be in the playoffs I would imagine, they look a good side at this level and we probably just deserved to beat them.

I thought it was a cast iron penalty from where I was sat, Cobbold so very close to it, no complaints there.

I enjoyed the game and thought we showed a lot of promise, happy with what we got and would far prefer that to scraping a few early season wins from our only shot as we have once or twice recently.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

Can't believe the stick you're getting for the OP. It's not particularly whiney and yes they were a bit dirty and certainly trying to waste time with all the usual tricks we expect in this league now. Yes we have to learn to deal with it but it doesn't mean it's alright and people shouldn't point it out.

One could be forgiven for thinking this isn't an Ipswich board by reading this thread.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

It’s not cheating it’s clever play for goodness sake. Everyone from a park footballer to athe highest level uses these tricks.

"Tricks". This is football we're talking about, not a children's party.

Not having that.

As soon as you excuse cheating as being part of the game you may as well not bother.

This sh1t idea started with phrases such as 'won' a free kick/penalty.

You do not 'win' a penalty et al. You are awarded one in compensation for the opposition's failure to respect the game.

Any other acceptance and it's no longer 'sport'.

Edit: and before someone starts, because they will as always, I'm talking about grappling one of our players to the ground and then sitting on the floor like a victim, before standing up and holding the arms out in faux innocence.

Falling over when hardly touched looking for some reward etc...

Hate it, always have.

I’m fully aware of that. But when blatant fouls are not being pulled by refs and time wasting is not being punished, or rolling over like they’ve been shot by a bloody rifle trying to get opponents sent off then teams will continue to do it don’t they! It’s up to the refs to control this basic CHEATING!

And it can be the difference between a class team winning or losing a game to another team full of well rehearsed dickheads.

Maybe i don't see it because i spend my saturday afternoons being a bit of sh*thouse myself and then have to defend my physical approach when the opposition whinge about what i see as hard but fair tackles. I'd be a hypocrite if i complained about bolton yesterday. Anyone who grew up in the 80s/90s really shouldn't have a problem with a bit of grappling and time-wasting though - it's what we grew up with. Lets not get sucked into this idea that football should be a non-contact sport rubbish.

I don’t think anyone on here is of the view that the game should be a no contact sport. You’ve just tried to make 2+2=150. There’s a BIG difference from a hefty challange ( I saw plenty of those in the 1970’s in the Dirty Leeds era etc and shoulder charges thst put a player in the stands, to complete shytehousery thst teams deploy these days. Which is beyond cynical in my view. Eg players going down like they’ve been hit by an Exocet missile, and then rolling around like South Americans used to do in Workd cup games . The Bolton player did that yesterday then got up and jogged off . No booking for obviously trying trying to get out player booked or sent off. The deliberate targeting of JJ within minutes of him coming on . The persistent time wasting by their players (GK throwing the ball away etc). The game in the 70’s was hard and physical but there wasn’t this cheating and so called “gamesmanship” thst goes in these days and especially in this division : it’s pub football because the players / teams don’t have the skills to beat an opponent fairly .

Bolton amply demonstrated that yesterday , and as someone else alluded to, get ready for plenty more of that this season at PR. THATS why it’s “ difficult” to get out of this league snd for no other reason. It’s up to the refs to Marshall this , but they’re poor officials in the main. So Town players NEED to wise up and deal with it, coz they’ll get minimal protection from the officials . But it says a lot about how low the game has sunk in terms if this shytehousery when supposed “ footballing” teams like Bolton resort to it as their only perceived method of beating a proper football team. So if you’re making excuses for this shytehousery, that’s more a reflection on you , than onTown!
