Sewage being pumped into the sea? 15:39 - Aug 22 with 6689 views | SitfcB | Why is there a big thing being made out of this at the moment when it’s been going on for years and years? It’s always been common knowledge that it happens hasn’t it?

Sewage being pumped into the sea? on 11:31 - Aug 24 by J2BLUE | That stat is absolutely insane. Nine million hours. Nine million. Nine. Million. What the f##k? |
I would say that statistic is fairly unfathomable. How do you begin to understand it? I would, instead say "an increase of 2,553% in emissions over five years". At a time where we should be looking to increase our environmental awareness and responsibility we have made it worse by 25.5 times. We have increased sewage discharge into the sea by 5 times as much every year for the past 5 years. All in the interests of profits. It was possible to clean this up when we joined the EU. This is a clear demonstration of how legislation is needed to encourage social responsibility over profit. This is, of course, the true Brexit benefit.

Sewage being pumped into the sea? on 12:57 - Aug 24 by DanTheMan | Unfortunately human beings are really bad at planning for long term, preferring short term benefits. And boy does it show. Also to those in the thread who have started a Corbyn discussion, glad to see yet another thread derailed by it. Could you folks just create one thread so those who aren't interested in seeing the same discussion for the 9 millionth time can just ignore it please? [Post edited 24 Aug 2022 13:04]

Sorry Dan. But the Corbyn stuff certainly shows the rot at the heart of the UK and its politics. We can address the lack of political honesty, insultingly shoddy journalistic standards and generally corrupt, self-interested public life we’ve come to accept. Or we can continue to move from one scandal to the other wringing our hands. This time sewage, within an hour it’ll be something else equally sh1tty, unhealthy and damaging to society. If people don’t agree or don’t care, they can just put me on ignore rather than complaining about it.

sorry!! only passing the time with flippancy.

We can do all of that, and that would be a good thing. But do we constantly need to go over and over Corbyn on every damn thread that's even tangentially related to politics? I don't really want to put you on ignore as we have differing opinions on things and that's good but it's just very annoying when threads get constantly derailed so a few people can continue their eternal "Corbyn good / bad?" discussion. Especially in table mode when you can't just ignore some side conversation. [Post edited 24 Aug 2022 13:18]

Quite - it's the endless repetition of exactly the same points that have been discussed about 250 x before over 5+ years that's the problem - it's like groundhog day in the 7th circle of hell! Not to mention that saying about repeating the same thing over & over again & expecting a different outcome ...

So you’re saying people should have a point and not bring in stuff that’s only tangential? I tend to agree. But not sure how that’s ever going to happen on here. On politics alone, there are at least a half-dozen posters who post all the time but only deal in disingenuous tangents.

i thought my trump angle was an interesting tweak that raised it above the mundane and predictable. but my work is just never appreciated.

Indeed. Polluting the environment with raw sewage is neither a water company’s nor a politico’s right.

Sometimes by repeating points people learn. There are no quick fixes to deradicalisation or getting people to drop the comfort of their narratives. For example, after repeated exposure, you’re now comfortable accepting that as a saying. So some things do eventually change.

Nope, & dunno how many years/decades ago that was (one of the fun things about TWTD - stuff being dragged up from ancient history) - but this was only the second internet site I came on (first was the club) back in 1997 or so, so had no idea how forums worked. Water off a duck's back now, & am well able to sort your chaff from your wheat thanks v. much

Are we in parallel but different universes? It was about 6 months ago. And I had to remove that saying (the definition of insanity) based on your extreme and very personal reaction to it. I must say it feels very weird that you don’t even remember that now. And are blithely trotting that line out yourself.

Eh? You quoted the phrase "ignorance is bliss", so that's what I was referring to. I thought we could at least have a bit of a light-hearted josh without you resuscitating old arguments on the back of your own unclear writing. Oh well.
