A tweet went round yesterday with the idea, got good numbers, sure the club shop saw it and others from the club.

Marcus Stewart’s gloves on 21:23 - Sep 9 with 1974 views | jeera | Yes very fitting idea. And one Marcus will probably approve of himself! I don't know how funding is now and this article is a few years old but looking at it MND clearly has a history of underfunded research: "Rosie is a calm, accepting person but one subject does cause upset — the lack of money for research into the disease. She has good reason to feel angry. MND kills 100,000 people every year around the world, a figure that’s rising. But between 1994 and 2004 the Government spent just £108 on research per patient. Meanwhile, in the same period, the Government spent about £337,000 on research for every person with CJD [the human form of mad cow disease] — even though fewer than 150 people have died from it." https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/health/29997/Every-day-I-battle-but-I-ll-wi

There was a big fundraising push using the "ice bucket challenge" some years ago. I am sure any further money will always be useful, but lots of diseases probably receive very little government funding.

Yes I should have said government rather than charitable. "lots of diseases probably receive very little government funding". I guess so. I know there was/has been an element of controversy surrounding stem cell research but now is maybe not the time to be delving into that one, but you'd assume a break through in one area can lead to progress in others too. No point in my speculating on that too much though. I picked up Mrs Fraser from her home a few times when I worked under a local private hire firm and she was a nice lady. When she became unwell it was a disturbingly rapid deterioration and very sad to see. She originally wrote for the Times on the subject as an awareness raising exercise and I suppose they didn't hold the rights so it was printed elsewhere too to reach a wider audience, which could only be a good thing. It is one of those subjects that seems to dip above and then below the radar again until a prominent figure has it.

Money for more research into a cure was promised by the government last year, but there’s no sight of it yet. https://amp.theguardian.com/sport/2022/jul/19/rob-burrow-government-has-blood-on [Post edited 9 Sep 2022 22:17]

I’m surprised the The Express had time to do that article as they are normally banging on about Diana…
