7.30 kick offs 23:28 - Sep 12 with 2534 views | LBBlue | Serious question, why do we kick off at 7.45? It used to be 7pm or 7.30pm years ago. Like many travelling supporters I have over a 100 miles to drive to each home game. Perhaps in the age of hybrid working this can be addressed so we can all get home at a decent ti e and up for work the next day. Saying that I’m working in wales tonight and tomorrow so will miss the game, next time it happens I’ll offer up my two season tickets to someone locally.
7.30 kick offs on 23:47 - Sep 12 with 2487 views | N2_Blue | I have a 100 mile trip to home games too. If games were at 7pm i wouldn't make it time after work. I'd rather ensure i have enough time to get to a game than worry about whether i make it home by midnight or not. I think 7.45 works personally.

I’m sure I recall reading in the programme in the late 80s a discussion about this very subject. Iirc the official response from the club was because so many fans don’t live in Ipswich they went with the 7:45pm kick off to give fans more time to get to game

7.30 kick offs on 07:39 - Sep 13 with 2072 views | Vaughan8 | For as long as I can remember, it's always been 7.45. I don't think 15 mins would make a lot of difference. As others have said, 7pm would mean a lot more people miss the game. Not everyone has "hybrid working".

It definitely used to be 7.30 years ago, but now everyone has switched to 7.45, even local Suffolk and Norfolk sides.

I've been going since 1985 and only ever known 7.45pm for home games, with the exception of the Covid 7pms.

My favourite's when they move game to a Sunday but have engineering works on. Always a hoot when trains and sporting events aren't coordinated.

It does indeed make one smile, especially if, like me you can walk to the ground. But in these days of carbon counting and official discouragement of car use these large-scale crowd occasions need and deserve some real attempt at coordination. People having to leave the game 10 minutes early in order to get the faster train to London is a slap in the face for any relevant authority's talk of Climate Change, sustainability, blah, blah. Even locally, getting an Ipswich bus from Tower Ramparts is either impossible as the service has stopped at 6.30 or the service runs one an hour. Some will say that they couldn't change the timetables for four or five evening games a year, but older fans will remember that every bus service in the town used to line up on Portman Rd awaiting the end of the game. This was not part of the regular timetable as back then, as now, no conventional bus ordinarily served Portman Rd itself. What price progress? [Post edited 13 Sep 2022 17:18]

I'm with you on that! I have to slope out of the ground bang on 90 mins to make the 21:44 train to Liv Street otherwise I'm getting home well after midnight.

Yep same. The difference between that and the 22:08 is big with work the next day.

Half time used to be 5 minutes technically, although the referee wouldn't start timing it until he had got back to his room, had a sit down etc. After 5 minute he would bang on the doors & it would take a couple of minutes for the players to re-appear so the gap between halves would effectively be 10 minutes. Unlike amateur football where you hoped the captain had remembered the cut up orange segments. Half time has been extended purely so that clubs can sell more over-priced food & drink & so that Sky can show more adverts. The problem is that, with the longer halftime & the huge amount of time added on to games (often 8-9 minutes to the 2nd half, when 2-3 minutes used to be the maximum) games are finishing so much later, especially so with a 7:45pm kick off. A 7:30 kick off & the game would be done & dusted by 9:10pm; now, it's more like 9:45 at best. Makes a big difference to those travelling a distance home. No good solution as obviously yes, people can be pushed to get to a ground after work.

O for the days when we were on the telly box midweek. I used to love arriving at the ground to see the big old crane with the camera about Churchman's. TWTD

7.30 kick offs on 17:24 - Sep 13 with 1088 views | monty_radio | If rolling around on the ground and slow taking of goal-kicks produced one warning then a card, and drinks breaks on a cool night in September were kept to a minimum, then 5 minutes, or more, would be saved.
