This 'trickle down' seems more like a bladder-emptying downpour on our heads.

| And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show |

Indeed. It’s a bonus for all of us really. And it’s not at all reinforcing a centralised financial industry that’s been built up on fantasy money (including our own massive government and private borrowing) while our overall economy becomes weaker, less diverse, less productive and less well paying. That’s crazy talk.

If you are on PAYE surely there’s very little way to avoid tax? It’s those that way themselves in dividends etc at the low CGT rate that seem to hoard the wealth/not contribute a fair share. There also should be a higher rate say 60% over 250k, but that’ll never happen under this lot.

Happy to have no cap on a banker's earning as long as they also become personally responsible for any losses...

Kwasi Kwarteng considering removing caps on bankers bonuses.... on 13:19 - Sep 15 with 487 views | Oldsmoker | The markets are no longer gorging on QE so the FTSE will probably fall in value if there is a recession or low growth which most pundits think is likely. They seem to pay bonuses even if the market tanks and I'm puzzled by that. From the Bank of England. "Some people refer to the process through which central banks reverse, or ‘unwind’, their QE programmes as ‘quantitative tightening’, or QT. We announced our last round of purchases in November 2020 and that ended in December 2021. Now we have stopped reinvesting the proceeds when a bond matures. A government bond matured in March 2022, so the amount of bonds we hold has already started to fall. We haven’t actively sold any government bonds yet. But we have started to consider when and how we will sell some of the government bonds we have bought."

The bonuses will be paid in shares, options etc, not through salary/PAYE.

There will be a significant cash element as well, but kind of proves my point that CGT is too low. I suspect some on here won’t share the same outrage at the Royals not paying inheritance tax, and the voluntary (unaudited) contributions of the Crown Estate. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Income tax will be payable on any shares handed out. Only any profit from shares going up over time falls into CGT. If they go down the individual will lose out (having paid income tax at the level of the vesting price).
