If the OBR report is out on Oct 7th 13:05 - Sep 30 with 1279 views | gtsb1966 | why are we having to wait until November 23rd to be told what it says. Why can't we be told the next day. What is the governments reason for delaying it?

The thing that really grates is that they don't even have the decency to offer a "reach round".

Unless they get recalled, the MPs can't do anything until 11th October at the earliest. You would assume someone will table a motion to debate the non-budget budget and it will go to a vote.

That's from Full Metal Jacket is it not? I remember is as 'common courtesy' rather than 'decency' but either way it made my whole week.

Whereas the one thing we know about Truss is she is almost up there with Johnson in u-turns, and changing her mind. However it's really about whether the ERG nutters think it is worth her pushing the Brexit stuff and risk seeing her booted out, or whether to tune it down a bit and hope to keep their protégé in No 10

If the OBR report is out on Oct 7th on 07:29 - Oct 1 with 710 views | Churchman | The OBR ‘gives independent and authoritative analysis of the UK’s public finances’. It was formed formerly in 2010 after the GE. It is funded by the Treasury but the key is that it is independent. The last thing the tories want is independent scrutiny, even if it’s from a body they created. Says it all really. It will only tell them what they don’t want to hear and more important what the public and the markets don’t want to hear. They didn’t do the work. OBR reports are usually detailed, analytical and quite long, as you’d expect given the subject matter. Of course, they can get things wrong and in my limited experience of these, you do get a chance to comment on the content before publication so that inaccuracies or misinterpretations can be ironed out. The key here though is that it is a view. That’s the last thing the dimwits want. I look forward to reading the OBR report. [Post edited 1 Oct 2022 7:30]
