Where's the board's tories? on 16:19 - Oct 3 by WalkyWonderland | Please could you define what you mean by a Tory in this instance? Someone who voted for them in the last election? Someone who has voted from them in the past? Someone who would vote for them currently? Someone who is/was a party member? Political opinion is and always has been very nuanced and variable for most people. 20 years ago I could have very interesting political debates but the last decade has seen so much more them and us, putting people into boxes (leaver, remainer etc.) and creating black and white arguments when things are rarely so simple. Happens everywhere. Especially the USA. Social Media has much to answer for. |
At last a good question. I think my intention when asking the question was somebody who currently supports them - would vote for them in a GE tomorrow. I think there's an inhumanity about our current government. IMO people will die this winter because of their policies. Kids will suffer from malnutrition because of their policies. Schools and hospitals are on their knees because of their policies. I have a high degree of contempt for anyone that supports that.

By that definition I'm not a Tory then, Thanks for clarifying.

I dont think there are many (other than dyed-in-the-wool, relatively well-off Tory voters) who would give them their vote at the next GE. I predict (based on current form) they will suffer as heavy (if not heavier) a loss than Labour did in 2019. Keir must be rubbing his hands in anticipation. A one-celled ameoba could defeat the tories currently.

Where's the board's tories? on 17:00 - Oct 3 with 724 views | HotShotHamish | I'm a Conservative, also not shy of saying so. Why on earth you think any Conservative would openly post on here is beyond me. This forum over the past few years has turned into a rabid echo chamber of virtue signalling and people who think they are experts on every subject. I used to post under a different name but the last few years has seen me mostly just trawl through the daily nonsense that is posted here. Some on here actually believe the drivel that they post, which given how totally biased it is is laughable. Most of the knowledge seems to come from other peoples tweets and journalists who share your political opinion. Most of you act as if Conservative voters are a rarity and you paint them as if they have three heads and live in Norfolk. I could debate most points made on here but the abuse you get is really not worth it. I know there are people on here who almost definitely vote Conservative but would be far too scared to admit it because of the abuse that would be directed towards them. The most ironic thing is that lots of you seem to think you are on a higher moral plain than Conservatives but seem to conveniently forget this when levelling abuse at someone for having a different political opinion. I will now log off and come back in a few days to read the outstanding replies this gets!

Poor old rightie. Maybe he sjhould have attended the fringe meeting by the yank who was warning off using such nonsense as 'virtue signalling'. What I have learnt n here is that righties only appear squeaking over excitedly when they think they have the upper hand...brexit, and run and hide when the consequences of those actions take hold. I have also NEVER read anything from a rightie that is not a variation of the 'but, Corbyn' bleat.. However, I will always happily engage so off you go. Explain how cutting taxes for the rich benefits society. How cutting benefits by not raising them in line with inflation benefits society. Or trying to sell of CH4, Bankers bonuses, underfunding the NHS, explain why Johnson lied in July 2019 when he claimed there was already a care plan in place...........

Thanks for the response. Interesting that you are against "levelling abuse at someone for having a different political opinion." Then appear to do precisely that.

Not sure he's been abusive. And I don't think there's much debate that this place is a bit of an echo chamber.

If you can debate most points made on here then you're far more qualified than most members of this current Govt.....

"rabid" this, "daily nonsense" that - plenty of characterising those with differing opinions to him/ her/ they as unpleasant. I'd call that abusive. I didn't deny that it can be an echo chamber or that there's some virtue signaling.

Tbf, anyone who voted for them in the last GE knew what they were voting for. Equally guilty.
