Kwarteng's speech is on now on 16:45 - Oct 3 with 1128 views | Steve_M | That was pretty crap even against expectations, incoherent and disingenuous. Labour caused the global financial crisis apparently but the Tories fixed it. Which is odd as five minutes earlier he told us that the UK was a mess and needed to do things differently. Wans credit for the energy price measures too despite Truss spending all Summer denying any need for them.

It was Gordon Brown who instead of being UK PM was working in the US selling sub prime mortgages as debt. He even wrote George Osbournes speech in which he attacked Brown for wanting more restrictions on selling dangerous financial packages, such as ......... as sub prime mortgages It rather works in the same way that Chamberlain was responsible for WW2 as he was PM when it started, and Hitler managed to solve it by committing suicide Unfortunately there will have been numerous righties who will swallow such patent guff, as it has been told to them by one of their betters
Kwarteng's speech is on now on 17:03 - Oct 3 with 1056 views | HARRY10 | Goebbels would have been proud “We were faced with a 70-year high tax burden. We were confronted with low growth and the path we were on was clearly unsustainable." Kharsi Care to tell us who has been in power the past 12 months. Who has been in the cabinet for all those years. Who set out that path. Maybe reflect on the low growth might have something to do with you and your party. How adding heaps of new regulation and checks might slow things down. And what is your answer ? Keep these post brexit regulations. 4 million extra customs forms PER WEEK, but get the stick insect to try to remove clean beaches regulations so you can dump raw sewage into the sea.

I love the claims about the energy crisis. As a government do you a) allow a failed "market" in energy to bankrupt half the population, cause widespread death and poverty, kill almost every business in the country, etc, etc, or b) print the money necessary to avoid the complete collapse of society?

Rare chance for me to catch the news today and it's astounding. All I can think is they are terrified of losing the next election.

I remember asking Edward Leigh MP the same question "Why have you repealed the Poll Tax? Is it because you've realised it's wrong or because you've realised you''ll get hammered in the election" His answer was as dishonest as his politics

They do seem to be obsessed with growth judging by their first couple of weeks. That said they are quickly learning that ideaology and politics are two very different things. I expect the zeal to loosen planning laws, like fraaking simply won't get off the ground. And they have at least dumped Mad Nad's plans to sell off C4. Am coming round to the view that as nasty as they are, seems all a bit like Pritti in action. Lots of strong words but an inability to actually deliver on those words in a meaningful way.

Well that means we won’t have to worry about food quality, Foot and Mouth, Mad Cow disease, infected grain, tree diseases, sewage tipped into the rivers. As long as there’s growth, who cares about red tape stuff. How about legalising fly tipping? That way LA budgets can be cut for things like rubbish collection and every person can take responsibility for dumping their own rubbish. Anywhere. Fields, rivers is best. The sea shore will already be one big sewage dump. Big saving for business = economic growth. Actually, combine this with removing all health and safety regs and we can return to those happy dynamic days of the early industrial revolution. Makes sense to me. You couldn’t make it up. Well I just did, but it’s uncomfortably near the truth. These people are scum. Their concern is just for themselves and theirs. Why not be honest about it.

Their unpleasantness is, thankfully, only matched by their incompetence. Imagine if they were all like Gove who generally managed to get his mad and destructive ideas implemented', if his time as education secretary is anything to go by.

I was in Education during Gove's tenure so know just how poorly he was thought of. Rachel Wolf was the supposed idealogue behind much of it and went onto write much of a tory manifesto in a latter election. And of course you had Cummings as an upcoming SPAD. From what I can tell, his time in environment was much better received.

Gove was the typical ignorant Tory who looked at everything with "I've done well so all people need is what worked for me" - you see it all the time in the general public when giving opinions on education etc. There are no polite or redeeming things I can say about Gove.

In my first lecture on my first day studying a PGCE, the senior lecturer said that if we learn just one thing, let it be to not assume everything that worked in our personal experience/education would work for others. He explained how it was vital to open our minds to new ideas, new ways of educating etc. I often thought Gove could have done with being in that lecture such was his obsession with implementing old ideas from his own education.

Growth, a bit like woke. A word that is used, which no one challenges but all agree is good, or bad (woke) Anything that ensures the first not only must be good, but over rides any questions about it (Father Jack, 'that is an ecumenical question'). The reality is this is brexit being put into action. Reduce the state and so cut the taxes required to fund the state. That it has failed everywhere else, and matters little if your reward for spouting it is one of the top jobs. A clue might just be the Scandinavian countries who do just the opposite. So, here's a suggestion. Next time one of these village idiots is being questioned check how many times they claim it is about growth. oh and are we to assume the three previous Tory PMs were not concerned with growth - and why did not Truss mention this magically word during those 12 months.
