Rejoining the EU 17:26 - Oct 16 with 8731 viewsChurchman

For the first time, I have noticed somebody has written the words that dare not be spoken

https://www.theguardian.com/business/2022/oct/16/heres-my-plan-for-growth-liz-tr

For a boost to the economy, growth and all that stuff it’s an obvious thing to do. It’s six years since the farcical vote - the same length of time as WW2. Surely it’s time to say the experiment has failed and we need to move on.

So what’s to lose given Brixit has not offered one single benefit and is unlikely to do so? Pride? An election? Pride doesn’t pay mortgages or put food on the table. Winning an election is something the tories won’t be doing for a generation.

I hope it’s something Starmer is considering. It’s a logical thing to do.

I hardly ever get anything right but regarding the referendum I did think that the UK would vote out. I do still think that we will rejoin, not now, but in around fifteen years time. By then, the majority of the voters who voted out would have died and the younger generations would want the same rights that their parents/grandparents had enjoyed but in some cases took away from them. I don’t think that the younger generations then, would have the reservations regarding adopting the Euro.

Prior to this businesses might well demand that the country rejoins the single market.

The Brexit experiment has been ludicrous but for the next few years at least a lot of the leavers will double down, triple down and quadruple down on it. Its, in their minds socked it to the elite (the real elite wanted it) and so this pathetic version of ‘class envy’ will stop common sense from enabling the UK from joining anytime soon.

My real hope is for young people get to learn a trade and get a job which will serve them for life and not be undercut as has been happening for the last 40 years.

If it's the equivalent of after the war can we have them all arrested for the damage they did and hold them all accountable?

I do think the grand scale treachery and corruption needs dealing with even if the WW2 analogy is a tad clumsy.

We have moved on from those days, and although Brexit has been a disaster and is now causing mayhem, I would not like to equate it to 1944s France. There feelings were running high and righties were often simple shot out of hand. Check the fate of French righties caught by Free French troops. Some might think Farage should suffer the fate of Laval, a similar weasel who sided with the enemies of his country (his case - Russian money)

However there is some accountability, as Yaxley-Lennon, Hopkins and Alex Jones have found. I expect the orange faced crook will soon be tried as well.

I think many who voted against their countries and their own interests are now suffering the consequences. Farmers, fishermen and the hoard of gormless red wallers who believed the obvious sh yte about levelling up. One memorable said he was voting Tory because Labour had done nothing to protect him......................from 12 years of Tory austerity.

Whether those misled learn from what is now coming on can't be known. The 'master knows best' creed runs deep in the UK. Not always but very much so now.

I think we joined a common market not what is currently in existence.

Yes we did - but we couldn’t even keep up with that at the time. The later convergence into the EU exposed our failing even further.

Poll: What type of manager will we get?

Utter nonsense. Does some one read the Daily Star out to you.

Perhaps you might consider what nationality are those employing those supposed 'undercutters'

Why would German, French Dutch want to come to the UK when they can earn more in their home country.

My hope is that bigoted and ignorant views suchas yours die out with the senile of gits who thought inflicting a sub North Korean, shut off society was never going to harm the UK.

It would definitely be interesting to see the polling if Starmer agreed to do so.

He won’t, too soon after the initially referendum. Like him or not, he’s clever enough not to fight a battle that he knows will either be too unpopular or not winnable.

Well of course. But it would be interesting, hopefully somebody will poll the idea regardless.

Edit. Although my motives for voting leave remain unchanged I would be genuinely interested to see if the more mainstream(insert adjective of choice!) leave voters have seen through more nationalist/right wing delusions.

Bigoted and ignorant views? I will always stand up for young people what ever nationality they are. Typical bile from you again Harry, unsure why you are tolerated on this forum.

It's mind boggling how so called lefties cannot see that the agents of globalism drive down the wages of the 'working class.' However, always kick up, and not down, the rungs of the ladder. United we stand....etc...

Bile, eh ?

For someone who seems to peddle lives and misinformation I would say bile is a very mild response.

Your sort do not stand up for anyone, other than bigots like yourself

How can cutting off the UK from the Erasmus scheme be helping. Denying youngsters the chance to travel freely and study in Europe be beneficial ?

I suspect you support the very government who has made it easy for landlords to ponce off the younger generation, as owning their own place is almost impossible.

"Your sort".....you're a disgrace Harry, and wilfully blind at times if you refuse to acknowledge that free movement/economic globalism suppresses the wages of trades. People should be free to move but the driving imperative should not be economic.

Like I said Harry bile again, I'm a bigot? no point engaging with someone who always resorts to same old excuse. Why should I be surprised you do have form, like I said surprised you are tolerated on here. Any where else you would be finding yourself with a law suit against you.

Erasmus? who does that benefit? middle class / upper class /lower class you make it up as you go along don't you. https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/the-trouble-with-erasmus-is-not-just-the-cos

We both know we never got Brexit it was in name only to make Boris look good. The tory party and the cabinet were all pro EU even Boris but he saw a chance and took it so he could get the top job. Because of the overwhelming majority he was able to implement what he wanted, or rather the faceless people behind him. In a way covid really stopped them from storming ahead. Any way interesting but very troubled and worrying times ahead for whoever takes up the baton.

Never got brexit? Are we still in the EU?

So stating something obvious excuses your support of all the harm your lot have caused ?

Cuts to the school budget, cuts to training programmes and causing the UK to leave the Erasmus scheme.

Youngsters now stopped from studying abroad. School exchange trips massively reduced, both ways.

Remind us who removed nurses bursaries.................your lot, thats who

Failure to adequately train young people in skills is a UK government failing, not the fault of foreigners.

Even weirder to see them actively support policies large sponsored by far-right nutters bent on removing employment rights and environmental protections, making it harder for employers of all sorts to do business(and thus, employ and pay people), increasing the price of all sorts of essentials, removing basic human rights and demonising foreigners.

No argument with you Badger but there is a bigger picture as to why companies choose to employ someone from around the world rather than invest in training young people to be the next generation of workers. It is a big problem that if not addressed will consign a whole generation to the employment waste land. I will continue to stand up for the future employment of young people whatever their background.
