Problem is, OED has used an American spelling here. Could he be lying? Could he be unaware of the "globalist" term being code in far-Right propaganda? I mean he was very young when he marched with the NF.

I hadn't realised the expression was an anti-semitic trope until a couple of days ago when the host on LBC called out a caller for using it. Indeed, I am not sure I have heard the expressions globalist or globalism used in contrast to the much more common globalisation.

Nor did I realise until just now that Grant Shapps is Jewish.

Farage would have known both these things given the murky underworld he now inhabits, and knows what he was doing, so I think it is clear he has used the expression in an anti-semitic way.

Popular with those specifically German Socialists of the old National variety. Plays nicely for the Nationalist>Racist>Nazi taxonomy of arseholeness.

I wonder what we did before we ' called out ' people ?

It is another of these hip, with it man, bits of vacuous newspeak, stemming as ever from the US where they take a very reductionist approach to language. Nothing is so complex that it cannot be reduced to a singe meaningless word or two.

As to globalist then people like Fartrage have a point. As the word suggests that things like communication, trade and travel involve the globe. Other than all the evidence that humans have been doing those things for centuries and millennia in some cases he is right. Just as the earth is flat.

This misuse of the language originates (spikes) from the US. Given that the average mid west hillbilly has a vocabulary of around 50 words, they are prey to any new expression.

Liberal, as an insult is rather akin to denigrating someone because they are good and decent.

The problem is much of the media exists in a bubble and like children are always desperate to be seen as 'cool', so the mumbo jumbo they pick up on gets disseminated to a wider audience.

The result being people's means of expression then becomes limited by there limited vovaculary see Catch 22

So what we are talking about is the person and not the words. Making the use of certain words unacceptable is a dodgy path IMHO.
I think it might be a while before Farage calls out multinationals for stealing wealth from Africa, South America etc...etc...

Context, innit.

It would make more sense if it was written in Hebrew seeing as it's supposed author, Jesus, was a Jewish man and not Syrian.

Jesus didn't write it down. Luke was a gentile while Matthew was a Levite. It is believed the first written versions were in Greek. If there were early versions of Matthew in Aramaic they were quickly translated into Greek to be used across the Roman world.

There's context in how it's used for sure. But in some context's it is deffo a dog whistle to the far right without saying "Jewish people" out loud.

I guess it would depend a lot on whether he has followed up being called out on it by doubling down with a dictionary definition or by apologising that he didn't realise its connotations.

Furthermore, the probability is that whatever Jesus preached existed as an oral record for many years before being written down (and probably not by the illiterate apostles.)
