Humphries on 22:27 - Nov 7 by NthQldITFC | As a 10 he was trying little flicks round the corner and swerve dummies, with some but limited success. When he dropped deeper he was finding space beautifully, picking it up from the defence, getting it back from the midfield, pulling all the strings and letting Morsy and then Camara get forward more. I think the kid's ready for some serious game time, at least until Evans is back, and I would definitely start him next weekend. He's clearly got confidence, and gets on with game with getting fazed by anything. He could potentially very quickly become the heartbeat of this team. |
Morsy and Humphreys dovetail much better than Morsy and Ball. in my opinion. He seems a natural replacement for Lee Evans. In three or four years he's going to probably going to usurp Evans. Assuming they're both still with us of course. Lovely range of passing, gets his head up early and seems to have a picture in his head of what's going on around him before he gets the ball. Great future.
Humphries on 23:47 - Nov 7 with 917 views | madmouse1959 | One of the best young players Ipswich has produced for a long time. Class act that will only get better. Good ball control , good passer of the ball, mixed with a desire to do well. Get him signed up for 5 years at least.

Humphries on 22:25 - Nov 7 by kesblue | Dozzell is the most overrated player in itfc history fact |
Dozzell got a very bad injury, very young. It both robbed him of a large chunk of playing time at a key stage of development and will have had an ongoing physical, and possibly psychological, effect. Capped at age groups by England says there was a player there. Many England Under 18s don't go on to fulfill their potential, but it is often due to injury.

Yes, he looks like he has great awareness of his options at all times, which gives him that extra split second on the ball because he often seems to be able to get a good pass away under pressure after drawing his markers in. It's an ability which is going to make him a very good player in my opinion.

So weird how despite that he plays in the Championship and all our current players play in League One. Still, lots of you said the same thing about Downes.

Humphries on 22:11 - Nov 7 by Nthsuffolkblue | He was far better playing deeper and more centrally once Ball went off. The opposition tiring played into this too, but I think it is clear Humphreys is a central midfielder rather than a number 10 or whatever role he had to begin with. He looks ready to play at the level we are at which is very promising for his future. It is right to ease him into the first team gently too. |
He needs more of the pitch in front of him than having a 10 allows, plus has a superb engine that sees him making lung busting runs all over the pitch which you don't really see a 10 do. His passing range is good as a 10 though, the weight of that pass for Ladapo's chance was superb, as was the one for Norwood's goal vs Charlton, but he seemed to be the player who got most to grips with passing weight on a tough pitch last night Very, very talented boy, and one we need to see more off

Mick McCarthy, a manager most known for his pragmatism, elected to start Dozzell as a 17 year old on first day of the Championship season and had all the play go through him - basically the only time he let anyone do that for his Ipswich side. And Andre was off the back of winning the European Championships, playing a year above himself (as was Mason Mount, Trevoh Chalobah, Reece James, Ryan Sessegnon and Ben Brereton) When he was fit again the club was a mess, and we managed to hamper the development of a very talented generation of players......but he's still going to have a career most could only dream of.....it just won't be as good as his acolytes in that Euro Champs winning squad when it looked as though it would be then

For someone so young, his maturity on and off the ball is years above any of the youngsters we've seen in the past 20 years. Downes was good.. but hothead. Humphreys seems to be all of what Downes was but better on the ball and more mature off it. He's a prem star in the making.
