Would like to see him on the right and Davis on the left in the league.

Yes it is wise because we are second in the league, 3rd highest scorers in the country and its vital to the way we play. We have also conceded very few in absolute terms and quite a few of the recent goals were conceded after substitutions were made to sure up the defence.

Context is important here.

Given our position, statistics (which are basically top for everything in the league) and the fact that playing out from the CB is vital to that success I think the clamour to change is bizarre.

We aren't losing matches.

There's a need to try and find solutions to problems that just exist because of freak outcomes - as you say we are top of the league for nearly every metric of gameplay, and are a joy to watch.

Any changes to team which sees us look more solid, will take away us looking more fluent and that is the balance KM needs to strike - there is nowhere where we can just make us better outright bar a signing of a better quality player which we can't do in November

I agree with this. I don't know if anyone has the stats, but I would imagine Burgess had more time on the ball last night than any other player (possibly even including the goalkeepers).

In the first half I felt he was a bit indecisive and he was responsible for slowing play down somewhat, in the second I felt he got the ball moving up the pitch much better as he brought the ball out. Now whether that was due to him growing in confidence, or Bracknell tiring, I dont know, but it definitely meant we were more potent as a result.

You are correct, Burgess completed over 100 passes last night and 20+ more than anyone else on the pitch

Because in the last couple of league games we have been very vulnerable in the air. Teams are starting to exploit that.

Edmunson showed his attacking quality as soon as he got back in the team against Sheffield Wednesday when his trademark run set up Jackson’s goal.

However, it can’t be ignored that our impressive defensive record dropped once Burgess got injured.

A lot of our issues in the air over last 2 games have been Leif Davis and Wes Burns though, not Luke Woolfenden or George Edmundson.

I personally don't feel we looked worse when we had Bugess in for Edmundson, we were scoring goals and were top of the league whilst doing so, however we also appeared more solid defensively. People keep referring to Charlton. It's not that 1 game.. defensive weakness has been an issue. Absolutely thankfully we have overcome the problems... but why not fix something that is looking fragile before it breaks?

a niche perspective

Think we might see him soon on that showing as Burns not been himself so far this season for whatever reason. Maybe needs a rest, or a reminder he is not undroppable, or maybe Qatar is in the back of his mind.

The only Muff in Town.

Best place for that awful country to be!

Are you overplaying the importance of keeping Burgess out of the side here? Does he honestly destabilise our attacking play? And to the extent that his defensive contributions do not compensate?

If I'm not mistaken we've won all four league games he's played this season, scoring 2+3+2+2 goals and conceding 1+0+0+0. In all those matches we dominated the game in the areas you highlight (possession, shots, passing, accuracy etc.). We also dominated in our defensive qualities, which is where we've seen frailty lately.

I think there's a place for him in our starting lineup personally, especially in matches against long ball sides. You see more matches than I do, however, so I don't pretend to be better informed!

For completeness, he also started in our 1-0 Colchester loss and 6-0 Northampton win.

Wouldn't disagree but where would Burns fit in?

Why evidence for your first statement? Edmundson has generally got the nod when both are fit. Guess we will see over the next few matches.

I mentioned the left because KVY played on the left last night and was excellent, but that position isn't available in the team. So that statement he always plays on the right us clearly false as well.

He's a great utility player to have on the bench and can fill a number of roles i| think. In the absence of Greg Leigh would be a great 'finisher' for Davis for the last 20 minutes of a game.

I also think bringing him on for Burns on the right when we want to close games down is a better defensive option than bringing another CB in.

Where he is at the moment. KVY would be the right back rather than Donacien. Just as Davis is the left back.

It does seem more that KVY is the back up for Donacien now, as when Burns has missed games Jackson or Edwards has played that role

Be tough on Donacien. Is KVY good enough to slot in there rather than the wide wing back role.

He played that position under Lambert when people were saying he was Championship quality.

Tough on Janoi? Perhaps. But he's been a wee bit off and that's the reason we have a squad.
