Watching the WC… 20:34 - Nov 20 with 6935 views | monytowbray | …wonder if watching it via illegal stream is more or less ethical than being a viewing stat on paid-for channels? I didn’t watch it today, and the fiasco seems so Mickey Mouse I’m happy to miss it. A World Cup that feels like giving up one’s season ticket in dying days of Evans/Lambert. Pretty sure you’ve been blubbing all day in another thread about the WC all day so you can [desist] with your alleged accusation of virtue signalling. Got an upload from Glassers though I guess. Slacktivism, etc.

Blubbing? lol I've made a few posts on the opening game. Mainly about betting and VAR. Not sure how that is blubbing.

Apologies, yesterday (I read it today). Alas, you don’t half come out with some lazy and bitter responses at times in the face of justified and fairly simple moral dilemmas.

Watching the WC… on 22:53 - Nov 20 with 4031 views | CrayonKing | I was pleasantly surprised by the bbc coverage. It would have been easy to take the “now it’s time to focus on the football” approach, but they didn’t. They focused on the corruption that led to Qatar getting the tournament in the first place, the plight of migrant workers, lgbtq rights (lack of), and absolutely laid in to Infantino’s ridiculous speech. All the pundits spoke well, and made it pretty clear they thought the tournament was tainted. Might seem silly but I was able to enjoy the football a lot more after seeing that they weren’t just going to ignore the elephant in the room. Will be interesting to see what approach ITV takes with its coverage.

Yeah, imagine people being concerned about the human rights (and deaths) of people in the host country. What a bunch of woke wimps eh?! I wonder, what is it about football that attracts so many cavemen who can do little more than wipe dribble from their chins and gurgle 'Me love footy''. By all means enjoy the football, but at least acknowledge the context within which it's happening.

Watching the WC… on 08:52 - Nov 21 with 3585 views | itfcjoe | It won't make any difference on the BBC games as they are just licence payer funded; but guess may make a tiny iota to ITV who will be selling ads to cover it off Ultimately though, the reality is that nothing will stop BBC and ITV buying the rights to future WCs so not going to make any difference even if zero people watch games

I think you mean Budweiser, which just goes to show how much impact advertising has if you know the product is crummy to start with (although I do think Brewdog is just another crummy fizzy drink too.)

Watching the WC… on 11:00 - Nov 21 with 3343 views | GeoffSentence | If you watch it on normal broadcast TV you won't be a stat. The viewing figures for TV broadcasts are an estimate based on a sample of people who have a BARB box installed. If you watch it online then you will be counted as The Man will know. So if you are just concerned about being included in the viewing stats, just watch it on TV with your arial or satellite dish. Though if you have a 'smart' TV you might want to disconnect it from the internet and review any 'personlisation' or security features it has, just in case.

It's curious isn't it? The comment I replied to was clearly designed to get a reaction. The poster probably got the exact response they were hoping for. So, I should be getting thanked, not reported for abuse!

Some fun WA facts for you… A) The only folks on TWTD I am in any WA groups with is one with Sitters and Parky, as you can see it has little co-ordinating of posts and is more for pre-game meets/sweepstakes. B) I can’t help but feel, with some knowledge of Lucan and WitchDoctor once mentioning they have their own little chat with in-jokes, one is projecting.
