When will people learn, group stages are tactical, you play your way into tournaments is the Southgate way. Knock out football is where it counts, winners concede few goals. We know when we play faster we run the risk of conceding goals against players that need one chance.

England fans will never learn, it's like they can't remember the 5 tournaments before Southgate was appointed.
2008 - didn't qualify
2010 - scraped through easiest group (EASY - England Algeria, Slovenia Yanks) then got humped 4-1 by Germany
2012 - Awful tournament, knocked out by Italy on penalties, in the game our pass stats showed that the ball from Joe Hart to Andy Carroll was the one with most completions on our team
2014 - Lost to Italy, Lost to Uruguay and first team knocked out.....drew with Costa Rica in last game to finish bottom of the group
2016 - Only beat Wales in group, lost to Iceland
And then there was Gareth......but he's a bit too conservative at times so we don't like comfortably getting out of group and getting to latter stages of tournaments |  |
