One of them huh? Jesus Christ, stop looking for something in everything. Rashford thought he had scored and was utterly gutted, there's pictures of Kane everywhere as well.

Look. You might not like it. But it's something heavily discussed on other social media sites. There was a terrible follow up last time when the likes of Saka missed their penalties.. it's been nowhere near as heavy.. It may also be just 1 to you. But just 1 is 1 to many. There is no reason to have rashford associated with the loss in anyway. These are tough discussions for people to have. I get that.

Oh dear. He was on the pitch and went close with a free kick at the death, maybe a photographer caught a moment of anguish's felt by the nation?! Kane is all over the papers. There isn't individual blame here anyway, as Southgate says we win and lose as a team. Rashford is associated with it, just like every other England player who was on pitch at the end. Just because it is discussed heavily by some (often driving agendas) doesn't make their narrative always true. Go and look at some of the actual brutal headlines with Beckham and Batty got years ago and you take this from a single picture? No one is blaming the loss on Rashford FFS. He's a young man that's done his country proud again and arguably should have been brought on earlier. Just some people are fixated on wanting to see something else.

You're trying too hard though. Rashford is arguably England's most popular player. The nation loves him for what he's done previously. There is very little chance the paper had multiple pictures to choose from and went with that one because he happens to be black. That was a moment where his expression was a reflection of all of us. His frustration in that moment knowing it was over was felt around the country especially when it was a decent free kick and he thought it was in. This is nothing like the Euros and trying to shoehorn it in while implying everyone who replies to you is not capable of having the conversation is just ridiculous. Of course social media is talking about it. There are thousands on Twitter who spend their lives looking for offence around every corner.

Really hope this team and notably Kane are not on the on 10:44 - Dec 11 by bluejacko | Really? What a daft comment! Despite all the uproar when the two kids missed their penalties and of all criticism of players, officials on here I have yet to see the colour of their skin mentioned once! In fact as racism is a two way street it seems your comment could be taken for racism. |
You honestly think it is not racist to have a different reaction to 2 young black players missing penalties to 1 experienced white one just because the papers didn't explicitly say they were black? You seem to misunderstand racism entirely. To then say it is racist to comment on the fact black people are held to a different standard to white ones are is either plain daft or trolling. To describe GB as racist (and bear in mind I mainly disagree with a lot of what he says), is fairly outrageous. Especially in the context of your posting history too.

Maguire was boo'ed at Wembley in an England game recently, presumably because of his club form. It just goes to show there is still a small percentage of moronic England fans that get on players backs when not going well. It was audible enough that Southgate had to address it. Some of abuse that came out of the Euro final was utterly shameful and highly disappointing. However. I just don't think out and out racism is reflective of our fanbase / society as whole. It is really magnified on social media as well as being hard to trace. As for the press, many England players were subject to brutal headlines in past tournaments after failing just go back and look. Call it out when needed of course but to constantly be looking for something that's not always there just gives oxygen to people who want to divide. [Post edited 11 Dec 2022 16:32]

You are correct in your observation. However, to fail to see the reaction against the two players last time as racist takes a massive ignorance of the evidence. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57800431 It is noteworthy that the difference in media reaction feeds some way into the reactions too. There was a bunch of racist tweets which as I've said were pathetic and shameful. A few of those were I believed traced and prosecuted. Some as Southgate noted were from aboard. I do think social media magnifies some of this stuff and generally football has come along way in the UK in a positive direction. Either way the fact that still can occur is disgusting. So don't get me wrong I'm not saying the of the abuse they received wasn't racist. My point was and it seems relevant in this thread, many England players have come under abuse from press and supporters when failing. So in context is important when people are looking for things that aren't always there eg a picture of Rashford in the paper today.

The picture of Rashford was something Frimmers introduced and is an interesting point to note but, in isolation, potentially perfectly innocent. However, the reaction of the press to 2 very similar incidents is a massive difference. Does the press reaction lead to the individual racist reaction? Is it reflective of it? Is it divorced from it? I don't know, but would suspect there is a large element of yes to the first two and a definite no to the other one. Compare the press reaction to the two white players missing penalties in 1990 too. Perhaps I am just failing to recall vitriol spouted towards them.

You're speculating really, got to come up with pretty definitive yes when throwing this stuff around. Remember the 10 Brave Lions headlines after the Beckham sending off for example? Hardly a forgiving media is it. Not that I agree with any of it. Anyway everyone's entitled to their views and we can all agreed there is no place for it. Having been to Qatar last week the support of this squad was fantastic. Home tournaments bring out all sorts of once every 4 year morons.
