Literally only a handful of tickets left...what a cracking atmosphere it is gong to be. Would be great to see some upsets around the League...

How many are Oxford likely to bring?

Such a shame the Boxing Day game is against Oxford because they were the biggest shytehousers to come to PR last season. Time wasting from minute 1 ….

Gutted I can’t make it this year. Is it worth being disowned by family I wonder…

A big crowd doesnt necessarily equate to a crackkng atmosphere esp given how boring oxford are likely to be trying to kill tge game from minute 1

Just not sure what a full house is up to date!

About 28500-29000.

To put this into context, in 1980-81 season when we came runners up in Division 1, our average attendance was 24600.

EDIT: For CoastalBlue, Barcelona 70s home European game was 34k.

Quite a lot more for some of the European nights I believe? Though probably only still the sort of numbers you were quoting for the max now. About 30K for St Etienne?

I did sit through single figures during the Duncan years too to put some perspective on it.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

That's fantastic isn't it?

I was lucky enough to be in the crowd when there was just over 38,000 at Portman Road v Leeds in the mid 70s.

Pretty sure it couldn't have been safe by todays standards as everybody in North Stand (standing only) were crushed against each other, you had to choose to keep arms above your head or down by your side as couldn't move an inch!

Maybe the time will come, if we keep doing well that our capacity may be increased again one day.

Was discussing with junior earlier and looked up the attendances. First three rounds for 80/81 EUFA Cup win were 17-20k, QF v St Etienne was 30k, SF v Colonge was 25k and final v Alkmaar was 28k. Highest league attendance was 32k v Liverpool.

I remember a few 30K+ attendances in the early 80s, not many, even the home league cup semi v Norwich in 84/5 was 27k.

400 according to ITFC.

Which is pretty pathetic to be honest.

Big crowds don't always mean a good atmosphere... usually the extra fans are part-timers who sit on their hands.

We have had better atmospheres with 10k than 30k in the past.

Time for town to generate the atmosphere by scoring a couple of goals first half.

Remove the fear and I reckon it would be quite loud.

When was the last time at PR. Town controlled a fast flowing game whilst being 2/3 goals ahead.

a niche perspective

Yep, I'm struggling to see much beyond a very frustrating game where Oxford realise a point is a good result and do anything and everything to make that happen whilst the ground is near-silent with the exception of impatient tuts and groans every time something doesn't come off.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

We've got to channel that frustration into vocal support. Leif getting chopped down in front of the away end at Accrington was the turning point for atmosphere that day. Bring your strepsils and your lemsip and get ready to squawk

Strange how large crowds do not generate a good atmosphere, best atmosphere I have been at Portman Road are the night games……..not forgetting Bolton in the play off semi final, but the team had a lot to fight for that night
