Yes, it will boost the reach of the offer and name recognition of the company and in turn its business just through reporting. But it’s still awful on a few levels.
It’s only clever in the same way that theft and fraud can be seen as a “clever” way of making money compared to earning it. Same principle ultimately.

I used to work with a girl whose family doctor was Shipman. Understandably she was in quite a bad way when it all came out, although her family never had any problems with him. I’d completely forgotten I knew that until I saw that advert. I’m going to sleep to have some nightmares now.

It's one of those things where the company will come otu with some bollox to try and justify it as a form of art or other such thing and claim they are trying to make someone think.....when reality is it's just an incredibly crass, low hanging fruit idea that anyone could have come up with and don't because it's incredibly bad taste and offensive to the families of all his victims
Not a good look really. Yes there's the impact on the families of the victims, but more than that it's undermining trust in GPs at a time when they're getting absolutely hammered already.

Agreed.
Beyond the tasteless and very offensive to victims/families/community Shipman part, the underlying message re: the medical profession is even more nasty and damaging.
The company should apologise or own it. Because they’ve not done either judging by the response here.

Like some other appalling adverts, it would ensure I never bought anything from them. In this case, if I had relatives/friends who might be vulnerable to that kind of scumbaggery, I'd be alerting them too.
Edit: I see the ad's been forwarded to the ASA for scrutiny & can't see how it'll survive their "legal, decent, honest and truthful" mandate.
