But then I also find the fees in Football disgusting- imagine the good £107m could do for the vulnerable in the borough of Chelsea (if there are any in Chelsea). Sorry, going off on a tangent, but it’s all a symptom of the same problem of greed at any cost. |
Thetre is the difference in that folk do not have to participate in football - and while mugs hand over money for what is freely avaiable elsewhere then there will be these huge sums There is no choice with gas or electricity, and there is pretty much a cartel running petrol sales What is seen as excess profit should be taken off Shell, as they are not charging a price that has been forced upon them, they are simply extorting money.

I hope so buh! Seems odd to me as they’re perfectly placed to mop up in a burgeoning renewables market, and lobby for subsidies and tax breaks. But they seem oddly resistant.

And petrochemical demand is projected to continue to grow, even as fossil fuel consumption declines.

So what's the answer. I spent a lot of last year looking at electric cars as I thought they were the future but in the end I couldn't press the button as I couldn't see how one would work for me. Our main man Tarun in the office has an EV and he only has to drive from Leicester to Cannock every day and half the time he is afraid to put the heater on in case he runs out of juice- oh, and he sh1ts himself over the leccy bill. And what's going to happen to all the millions of batteries that will need disposing of? Yet, all the big boys have invested billions into it. This could be the biggest feck up in the history of man. Why aren't the big boys looking at hydrogen? Why hasn't this been taken forward?

I’m a petrolhead - I like fast noisy cars, guilty pleasure. But it’s clear even to me that EV’s are the future , hydrogen is non-starter unless perhaps for shipping because it’s so much less efficient than charging a battery. Hydrogen takes a huge amount of power to create. That’s why it’s not been taken forwards. As for disposal the batteries can be recycled or better yet used for power storage.

Well I'm a dunce on the subject and I hope you are right - but at this time, for me, an EV is simply not going to be viable I really fancied one of those Tesla jobbies but I think I'll wait until the batteries get up to 1000 miles

It seems a general rule to me that when you're a person who is focussed on money, you lose sight of the things that matter, and you end up perpetually unhappy trying to 'get more' or keep hold of what you've got.

Shell - no profiteering here is there on 09:18 - Feb 2 by DanTheMan | Looking back through their earnings reports and tax contributions, it appears we've paid them more than they gave us in tax. In dollar amounts, taken from the tax reports / sustainability reports. 2021: (54,150,455) 2020: (66,144,531) 2019: (116,131,753) 2018: (114,910,894) 2017: 87,957,190 2016: (142,467,814) 2015: (128,360,400) Harder to see past that point. Is this not because of the generosity of company tax R&D concessions?

I don't know, the reports do not go into enough detail to see why they were paying negative tax, or at least I couldn't see it.

Shell - no profiteering here is there on 14:29 - Feb 3 with 834 views | itfcjoe | There couldn't be a starker example of how broken things are in Britain today. People can't afford to put their heating on and we have energy firms breaking into peoples houses to fit pre paid meters so they can get even more money of them and the energy providers making absolutely eye watering profit. Whilst the Tories insist it is just the war pushing prices up, any layman can see what is happening and where the money is going and it's absolutely disgusting. The Govt haven't got a grip on anything in this country, and their only route to an unlikely win at next election is a 'war on woke' that isn't cutting through

Meanwhile the FTSE 100 has touched a record high this week. Although there is the benefit of the strong $US, it does suggest increased cost bases from inflation are not eating into profits.

More tanks and anti tank thingies should be sent, as the war on drugs has failed we must not lose the 'war on woke' (whatever that is). Meanwhile "Gas spot prices dropped to about €55 a megawatt hour (MWh) on Monday, a level last seen before the start of the war in September 2021, down from €330/MWh at the end of last August."{/b]* But never mind, there's a war to be won. Dogs are being fed insects, which surely must be 'woke'. "They can raise our energy bills, put up the price of petrol but they will never take away our dog food" the anti-woke league * interesting stuff here - https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/feb/03/putin-russia-blackmail-europe-gas-
