11th, 9th & 11th 23:09 - Feb 11 with 9838 views | GlasgowBlue | That’s our League one finishing position for the last three seasons. Money doesn’t give us the God given right to a top 2 finish just one season later. Look at the money Sunderland spent. It took them four or five seasons to get out of this division. And going into March last year they looked like the team who were going to drop outside of the play off places. If we finish 6th then that’s progress. If we finish in the top two, and that is still a real possibility, then it will be a fantastic achievement. As for today’s result; so many of our draws have felt like defeats. This draw feels like a win. And psychologically could give the players a real boost. Let’s cut out the defeatist talk, the sense of entitlement and the over the top criticism of Kieran McKenna. Along with the owners and Mark Ashton, he has given us our most exciting and entertaining season in years. Let’s get behind the club, the players and the manager. COYB!!! 11th, 9th & 11th on 20:51 - Feb 12 by pointofblue | I think people would be more positive and hopeful now had the dip happened at the start of the season, and we were now building momentum. See the Bolton or Derby forums. Of course, the flip side would have been a lot of tension and questions being asked in September. I agree performances are much better under McKenna than Lambert but they should be - the standard of player he has at his disposal is of far higher quality. |
Maybe they would, but there's never an ideal time to have a dip and no-one can control when they happen - it's possible Derby might be heading into one now following the weekend. Arguably the disappointment would have been greater if it had happened at the beginning of the season after the optimism of the summer. Anyway, I don't think we're going to agree, and it's getting late for an old timer like me, but I wish you a good evening.

At no point this season have we been out of the top six. If you want to ignore the 15 wins (half of our fixtures this season), we haven't won a single game all season!

When did we sit top and points clear, I think early season in September we sat top 3pts or so clear, other than than have we been top? And when have we been more than 4/5 pts clear of of 3rd? | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I don't understand the Bolton inclusion? What does that have to do with it? By the end of the month we were top but only 3 points ahead of Wednesday in 3rd, that is all that really matters.

So no saying we did not win, we did not score either and we are now 4th because (although that is what happened) it will be called defeatist. I exoect I will be chased with pitchforks and flaming trorches by the deluded if I mention that today is Wednesday. Referring to supporters (who question what is happening) as defeatists suggests a blinkered attempt to shut down debate. It was not us who stated "God have mercy on League One, because we won’t " nor "Asked by a Town fan whether the financial resources were there, Steed replied: "Our fund is $13 billion and we’re holding $700m in cash. So, yeah?" Those comments were made almost 2 years ago, and it is the height of absurdity to claim that finishing 6th is progress when set in the context of those comments. It was the same forelock tugging subservience that saw no wrong in Evans ownership. A mindset that we should be grateful, and accept our lot as a L1 club. I stated after the draw with Weds that we may well end up in the payoffs with a 25% chance of success. We have now fallen two points further behind Weds and Plymouth. Both Weds and Plymouth are on target for approx 99 points, which would leave us needing 2.65 points per game from the final 16 games - or 42 points our of the final 45. Thats not defeatist, thats realist as it is based on how things actually stand. [Post edited 15 Feb 2023 0:12]

Rational, objective thought doesn’t fair too well in this forum I’ve noticed. You need to be rabid and polarised to have a debate (argument) otherwise it gets shut down and lumped into one or the other camps. We’re in trouble. 4 wins in 15 is now as bad as Cook’s worst run.

The difference between Cook’s poor run and McKenna’s is that under Cook we were nowhere near the play offs, whereas under McKenna we haven’t been out of the top six all season. Of course promotion is the aim this season but it’s also a long term project both off and on the pitch, and sacking another manager after just over a year in charge goes against everything the club is trying to do.

I thought it was a pedestrian and toothless performance. We have still progressed from last year. The two aren't mutually exclusive texters.

We’ve progressed as a team but individuals are going backward at an alarming rate: Burns, Walton, Edmundson, KVY and Harness. Aluko, Jackson and Edwards are all hit or miss. Very soon, if we’re not seeing it already, the team will start to progress less as a result. We have to just get our best eleven on the pitch regularly now. Problem with that now is, there’s no midfield duo fit enough.

You have to be very naive, and know very little about football if you think we haven't made progress under KMc in the last 18 months to be honest.

Oh that we have, well, in the first half of the season. I’m seeing nothing at the moment to suggest we’ve properly improved. If anything we’ve gone backwards

Even more laughable to suggest we've gone backwards. We are going through a rough spell in a long term project. Throwing toys out the pram at the first real sign of trouble is ridiculous. Put your big boy pants back on and stick with the club.

That’s not fair. Some people are allowed to believe that we should, as the history of football tells us happens all the time, win every single game throughout an entire season. [Post edited 7 Apr 2023 2:28]

Totally forgot about all this, thanks for bringing it up, it’s always nice to revisit discussions that were had during the course of the season. First 15 games - 10 wins Second 15 games - 5 wins Third 15 games - 7 wins out of 8 so far As I said at the time, that 2nd third of the season was absolute gash, we played badly and drew lots of games that should have been won comfortably, we would be miles clear at the top of the league now, had we not squandered so many points. If we don’t manage to secure a top 2 spot by season end, that middle part of the season is very easy to identify as the reason why. Here’s hoping it won’t matter, COYB!!!!

Haha A lot of the above are back into “this is the best thing since sliced bread” mode. To be fair the 14th of February was w@nk. I get it. That lull has made it a whole lot better for people.
