Bloody international call ups! 20:35 - Mar 13 with 12811 views | ArnieM | That’s the last thing we need. Causing us to call games off will break our momentum, and probably end out winning run. I doubt Plymouth will have this problem . Absolute cock up if this happens in my humble opinion.

Bloody international call ups! on 09:26 - Mar 15 by N2_Blue | you seem to be moaning about how many fixtures that we may face in April with a postponed Barnsley game. You do realise: 1) Barnsley have played two less games than us and have the problem of potentially squeezing the game in with us - so they are in a worse position. 2) Plymouth have a Wembley date and all the preparation that goes with that to contend with. I think you are making this a much bigger deal than it is. Even though we are on a good run of form I think Mckenna might relish a mini break, get everyone fit, shake off the aches and pains and have a final assault on the last 10 games with a squad with far superior depth to that of Plymouth and Barnsley. I know which club I'd rather be at this stage. |

Bloody international call ups! on 09:09 - Mar 15 by ArnieM | Thanks for your response Herb, I do appreciate it. I am aware the last game of season is all at same time on a Sunday normally. So this must mean Barnsley game will be squeezed in a very busy April schedule. Not ideal. I suppose all I was trying to do was vent my frustration in this thread about the impact international breaks have on the domestic fixtures. We know this league is tough and the difference between promotion and also rans, is very fine margins. I’m not sure how the IB will affect our promotion rivals but these fine margins may have just got finer and all I was trying to say was it’s likely to put a spanner in the works as regards our momentum, fixture congestion snd possibly even injuries ( which I accept can happen any time) . The like of Plymouth and Barnsley (our two main rivals?) if not disrupted by IB would conceivably be rubbing their hands at the impact it might have on us. I’ve never at any point suggested we play the game with a weakened team because clearly that’s madness, and there is no easy answer . What will be, will be. But it might just be the feather that tips the scales . I hope not! |
Of course it's worth pointing out that if we're disrupted by the international break then Barnsley will be too as their game against us will be affected.

Any idea if Sheff W and Plymouth are affected by these call ups? Problem with league one is most clubs probably not affected so you’re almost ss victim of your own success ( as one of the bigger clubs)

Yea a big squad with several internationals puts you at a real disadvantage in league one...

Well if our big squad with several internationals ( not all of them called up) are that good , many e they could play Barnsley with some of their colleagues then. What do you think?

Why play them when we're missing key players when we can play them at full strength though?

Who are currently above the small town of Ipswich who are punching above their weight and struggling with their superior money and squad to gain second place in League One, what a fall from grace you have had hey. Hopefully your little town will have their day back in the Championship where you can pretend to be a big club :) Meanwhile, I think this is a great season for many clubs and its made League One a mini Championship with so many going on ridiculous unbeaten runs and pushing others to do the same. Its anyones guess who will be runners up to Wednesday, the probability is Argyle, but anything can and usually does happen in this league. Personally I think you having the Barnsley game cancelled is a bad thing for you if Argyle pick up maximum points in the next week.

Bloody international call ups! on 12:22 - Mar 14 by ArnieM | Sorry didn’t realise that. I’m not sure the break right in the middle of a brilliant run of form will actually benefit us . Historically we’ve always “ not turned up” in the league match after an international break . Time will tell if this is to be repeated , but ultimately we can’t afford to not turn up …. Which is why I feel so strongly about these international breaks. But since the club has no control over it , we’ll just have to get on with it won’t we. |
Players can reject international call up,not club.ber can't Celina rejected international call up to help Ipswich last year

Bloody international call ups! on 09:21 - Mar 14 by Herbivore | We can't stop players being called up for international duty and we have to release them if they are. If you're going to get worked up about something at least make an effort to understand it first. |
Players have a right to reject international callup.fact! Celina did last year
Bloody international call ups! on 08:57 - Mar 16 with 1156 views | xrayspecs | Our game is built around having good attacking options on the pitch and subs bench, so why would we play if two of our regular forward players are unavailable. It also gives time for Luongo to get properly up to speed and for the likes of Ball, Camara and TJJ to be available for selection. I get the momentum point but equally see a bigger picture.

They can, but why would they or should they? The club can't make them do so and if they tried I can't imagine it'd go down very well.

It's lovely really. Fans of other clubs only post messages like these when they are actually deeply worried. It just reassures me even more because that fear from the supporter will spill over into the club and players. We're timing this spot on we just need to keep the faith, i think we'll finish off 5 points better off than Plymouth over remaining 10 games irrespective of fixtures which is pointless analysing at this stage as sides scrapping for their lives can be as difficult as any game.

Where on earth have you plucked 5 points better than Argyle from? You say you are timing this perfectly but you do realise barring Bolton who are faltering that you have only beaten teams that are struggling, you havent pulled up any trees. Everyone expected you to beat the first four but at least draw with bolton so beating them was a great result for you. I am certainly not in meltdown myself as im quite confident you wont catch us now but you only have to read our forum to see just how dramatic our fairy fans can be. OMG we lost a game, its the end of the world, the manager screwed it up and so on, weve only lost 6 games fgs and still in second, funny being a fan really but i just dont see how you can catch us now but we will see :)

You got battered in your last two away games and you struggle to win on the road and you can't see how we can catch you? You were 10 points ahead of us a few weeks back and now you're only 2 points ahead with a far inferior goal difference and you can't see how we can catch you? Have you tried taking those green blinkers off maybe?

Genuinely impossible. I actually thought we didn't have much of a chance a few weeks ago but it's a completely different story now.
