Bloody international call ups! 20:35 - Mar 13 with 12831 viewsArnieM

That’s the last thing we need. Causing us to call games off will break our momentum, and probably end out winning run. I doubt Plymouth will have this problem . Absolute cock up if this happens in my humble opinion.

Don't think we'll need him to be called up, expectation is Broadhead and Burns for Wales and Leigh for Jamaica.

I thought the Jamaica squad had already been announced with Leigh not in it?

We can't stop players being called up for international duty and we have to release them if they are. If you're going to get worked up about something at least make an effort to understand it first.

There was absolutely no need for the snide remark at the end of your post . But as usual you can’t help yourself . I didn’t realise that clubs had no say on the release of players for international duty . That was all you needed to say .

We have no say, we don't "allow" anything. Of we didn't release them FIFA would make them unavailable for our fixtures.

I think the break might suit us

Sorry didn’t realise that. I’m not sure the break right in the middle of a brilliant run of form will actually benefit us . Historically we’ve always “ not turned up” in the league match after an international break . Time will tell if this is to be repeated , but ultimately we can’t afford to not turn up …. Which is why I feel so strongly about these international breaks. But since the club has no control over it , we’ll just have to get on with it won’t we.

Well maybe you should spout so much nonsense about it being a 'c0ck up' if you don't understand the subject you are posting about?

I’m expecting Barnsley to end our winning run anyway so it would be great if we can bump that game down the road a bit and hopefully clock up a few more wins in the meantime. The worst possible outcome would be that we don’t get any more call ups and have to play without Burns and Broadhead.

Bit of a shame the club didn't give any prior warning around this as I've just looked and I'm only eligible for £2.75 train ticket refund from £40 train tickets...

You can pay an additional percentage (10%??) for travel insurance when booking so you can cancel for a full refund if needed.... not that I did this mind.

Whilst we're on a brilliant run, so are Barnsley, so it probably works out well as it would prob end up a draw and we need wins not draws.

By the time we end up playing them, there might not be anywhere near as much riding on it, or we have a nice little buffer.

Town allowing key players to be realised to go off on international duty ( friendlies?) which means our league fixtures are halted , breaking our rhythm and most likely our rich firm of wins.

But also breaks Barnsley’s run which considering the opposition they’ve faced and length is more impressive than ours

Be pleased for the guys being able to play for their Country, it is an honour for them. We have a proper manager at the moment and he can manage it. All is good. And after being stung by the Rochdale game the other season you have to do the free cancel or insurance on these weeks.

But being fair there’s only so much warning that any club can give out. It’s an international weekend - that’s no secret - and there’s a possibility that Morsy, Burns and Leigh might get called-up. All that information is no secret at all.

When are Barnsley ( of all the top six) likely to have “nothing to play for”?

Week 4 of April , they will drop out off autos and rest a few for play offs ….. IMHO

Lol there’s plenty on here who post their opinions, that don’t know the subject matter!
Whether I was aware of the international ruling or not , does not detract from the potential effect on our good run of form by having an enforced break . We’ve rarely played well in the next league match immediately after an international break. Here’s hoping that fact isn’t reproduced again.

Edit: there’s also the thought that if we had to play Barnsley as a rearranged game at the end of the season and it meant we had to win that game to gain an automatic promotion place, I think I’d rather be playing Fleetwood than Barnsley … given Barnsley form I suspect they’d be right up there with us trying to Nick 2nd place ….( assuming Plymouth will capitulate).

I honestly can’t see much benefit from postponing the Barnsley game but as is evident from others posts, we have no say in it anyway .

We could decide to play the game despite the call ups. I agree Barnsley away midweek is worse than Barnsley away on a Saturday. There’s a lot that could happen with availability of players between now and May and we might find ourselves in a worse position then than we would be in a couple of weeks without the Welsh wing wizards. If the club get the chance to postpone then I’m sure they will and it will likely be the best thing to do but it isn’t an exact science.

I'd expect the clubs already to have been talking about it and with no other games to rearrange, I doubt it'll be that difficult to sort.

I don't see us reaching three players now Leigh has missed out. Bit gutted we'll have to play a massive match weakened, all for a pointless international, but at least fans' plans won't be disrupted. Unless Egypt have injury woes in the middle?

You can’t see the benefit of postponing the Barnsley game if we didn’t have Broadhead, Burns, Leigh and potentially Morsy not available? Jeez you get worse.

I don't know, I've been reading this thread and it seems like it could be impossible. What are the chances of us having to forfeit the result and potentially our season?
