Vieira sacked 08:42 - Mar 17 with 2002 views | Herbivore | I know Palace have been on a bad run but that feels a bit harsh. He's done pretty well there with not a great deal to work with.

Yeah that's a very good point, it's not been an easy run of fixtures and it's not like they've been getting absolutely battered. Vieira was a well respected coach and has otherwise done well there, feels a panic moved and very short sighted.

The problem is they go into that easier run in just no form at all - have won 1 game since the World Cup break out of 14 and that was back on New Years Eve Didn't have a shot on target in their 3 games prior to this midweek one v Brighton It's definitely been a quirk of the fixture list that has stuffed them, but they have no margin for error in these next few games (after Arsenal) and are in no form at all Just need a new manager bounce to get them through that and keep them away from trouble as they are bang in it at the moment

Vieira sacked on 09:11 - Mar 17 with 1764 views | LankHenners | They never sorted out how to replace Gallagher which was always going to leave them in a tricky spot. Have a talented squad of largely early-to-mid 20s players but still rely on Zaha to be the talisman as the likes of Olise, Eze, Edouard etc. just aren't at the level to produce regularly yet plus they still have Ayew who scores about once every 4 years. Feel he's been done a bit by the fixture list as well - seem to have most of the bottom half saved for the remaining part of the season and has been up against the likes of City, Utd, Liverpool etc. since January and were hardly battered in any of those games anyway.

Trouble with that is that from the owners perspective, if Vieira had been successful then CP would be in the top half and some of those teams would have been playing teams below them. Easy to say I know Plus some of their moron fans have been getting restless, look how some Town fans were even talking about KM not up to the job only a few games ago, and the trigger was pulled. The problem teams in the prem have is you cannot do it on the cheap, all players will demand huge wages, and income is always at the limit for 'smaller' teams, relegation can financially destroy them.
Vieira sacked on 09:23 - Mar 17 with 1636 views | tractordownsouth | Their points per game record isn't great but taking Palace to 12th in the Premier League is hardly a sackable offence. It's roughly where they should expect to be.

Had a quick look on a Palace forum and the fan reaction is very mixed. Some are really gutted he’s gone while others are delighted. I think Palace have punched above their weight for years. Small club who never seem that well run or to have many decent players, yet have spent a decade in the top flight without ever really looking like getting relegated. Presumably Brentford and Brighton being on the verge of Europe has made them wonder why they’re not up there challenging too.

Vieira sacked on 10:03 - Mar 17 with 1372 views | JammyDodgerrr | Agree, it's pretty harsh and he has overall done a much better job there than most people expected, i think. They are sliding away though, and i guess they probably just can't afford to be relegated. Be interesting to see who they get - the managers out of work at the moment aren't really inspiring choices, pretty much the main reason it's said why West Ham haven't sacked Moyes.

I agree that it's harsh, but there's only 5 points between 12th and 20th in the Premier League so things could change quickly
Vieira sacked on 10:29 - Mar 17 with 1251 views | WestSussexBlue | I know we’re in a completely different situation but I’m happy that we’re building a project here with a long and sustained effort. It doesn’t strike me that we’d part with McKenna unless things became irretrievably bad. That said, I’ve just heard Kieran was seen getting off the tube at Norwood junction.
Vieira sacked on 10:43 - Mar 17 with 1183 views | BigCommon | Probably a victim of his own , relative success, last season..Thought he had them on an upwards trajectory last year.. I guess , with the international break coming, they felt it was now or never.

Really surprised by this and reckon PV has been treated pretty harshly. I'm a bit thick on these things, but I've always wondered why clubs don't put a clause in the contract that in the event of relegation the wages drop by a certain percentage.

I think the problem is in most/a lot of cases the players (well the agents) refuse to join the club if those clauses exist. Clubs then have a fan base moaning about a lack of ambition and not buying top quality players.

Pretty sure they do have those clauses but they only cover a fraction of what they lose, and they do get parachute payments, but relegation overall is pretty bad financially, and then you've got to get back as well.

Vieira sacked on 11:56 - Mar 17 with 957 views | gainsboroughblue | They are 12th place but looks can be deceptive. They're not going to climb any higher any time soon as they are 8 points behind the next placed team having played a game more. Looking downwards, they are just three points off a relegation place, again having played a game more and are very much on a downward trajectory. Palace were the team I've been looking at as most likely to get dragged into the mire since the new year. I for one, am not surprised he's been sacked.
