diane abbott 12:02 - Apr 23 with 12802 views | lowhouseblue | in a letter published in the observer she tells us what she really thinks: "Racism is black and white. Tomiwa Owolade claims that Irish, Jewish and Traveller people all suffer from 'racism'. They undoubtedly experience prejudice. This is similar to racism and the two words are often used as if they are interchangeable. It is true that many types of white people with points of difference, such as redheads, can experience this prejudice. But they are not all their lives subject to racism. In pre-civil rights America, Irish people, Jewish people and Travellers were not required to sit at the back of the bus. In apartheid South Africa, these groups were allowed to vote. And at the height of slavery, there were no white-seeming people manacled on the slave ships." so being jewish is no different from being a redhead. i expect the letter is all made up. diane says it was just an "initial draft".

diane abbott on 19:42 - Apr 24 by matt92 | 5 pages in this thread but nobody here seems to give a flying one that there are literal Nazis on our streets, as in, the streets of Ipswich. Mind-blowing. Not defending Ms. Abbott, by the way, just pointing out the ridiculous imbalance presented by the media that translates into ignorance and apathy from the general public. |
This is a thread about the former shadow Home Secretary denying that Irish, Jewish and Travellers are victims of racism. There are plenty of threads on this board dealing with Tom Hunt. You even started 2 of them yourself. Why would you introduce whataboutery in this thread other than to deflect from the Abbott story? https://www.google.com/search?q=site:www.twtd.co.uk%20tom+hunt [Post edited 24 Apr 2023 20:59]

There was few pages where people broadly agreed on the ones I saw about it when it happened

Abbott's comments re the Jewish community were antisemitic. You're right that we need to fight nazis which come from all sides of politics. But if you're worried about it, you should be worried about comments like Abbott's. As I've said before, she and Corbyn and many of their supporters refuse to see antisemitism as morally comparable to anti-black racism

diane abbott on 10:43 - Apr 24 by Herbivore | There's a lot of anti-Semitism in and around the Tory party and its supporters but it never gets spoken about. The press are quite happy to weaponise serious issues like racism to suit their political agenda, and that's a real shame. |
I do think it's a be careful what you wish for scenario on this sadly Look at the Tory party now, deliberately trying to stoke up anger against refugees, describing refugees as an invasion Suggesting entire groups of refugees from specific countries, aren't genuine etc Where's the horror at these tactics? It's a very sinister approach Our own MP seemed to talk down the presence of the Far Right at a protest organised by the Far Right etc, when people put stickers round Town suggesting he was a Nazi apologist, he accused the Labour Party of giving them to some random student federation to post them around Town I have it good authority, the people who put them up had no connections to the Labour Party at all He's also suggested we are getting the wrong type of refugees, having visited a specific camp three times, he deemed this group more worthy than the actual ones, coming over. A very weird take indeed. We live in very strange times, I'm sure the more rational Tories, Conservatives with a small c are horrified at the direction their party is taking [Post edited 25 Apr 2023 8:42]
