in a letter published in the observer she tells us what she really thinks:
"Racism is black and white.
Tomiwa Owolade claims that Irish, Jewish and Traveller people all suffer from 'racism'. They undoubtedly experience prejudice. This is similar to racism and the two words are often used as if they are interchangeable. It is true that many types of white people with points of difference, such as redheads, can experience this prejudice. But they are not all their lives subject to racism. In pre-civil rights America, Irish people, Jewish people and Travellers were not required to sit at the back of the bus. In apartheid South Africa, these groups were allowed to vote. And at the height of slavery, there were no white-seeming people manacled on the slave ships."
so being jewish is no different from being a redhead.
i expect the letter is all made up. diane says it was just an "initial draft".
And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show
It's funny how it's less of a focus when Corbyn isn't in charge
The media isn't consistent on this, the Tories would have been nailed to the wall on Islamophobia, if they were the Labour Party
The media are often a lot softer on the Tories, that's just the mechanics of our media sadly
The Tories didn't like it when elements of it became critical of them, quite rightly so and they soon moved to try and muzzle it

There's a lot of anti-Semitism in and around the Tory party and its supporters but it never gets spoken about. The press are quite happy to weaponise serious issues like racism to suit their political agenda, and that's a real shame.
Would accusing 68 British rabbis of being "organised" by the Israeli embassy to complain about "severe" anti-Semitism within Labour, come under “portraying Judaic communities and culture as a shadowy and parasitic threat to “our values”? Or accusing British Jews of being part of a “smear campaign” organised by the Israeli lobby, when they raised concerns about antisemitism and presented their evidence to the EHRC?
Because I know a rank hypocrite on here who vocally supported this trope.
I’m not doing this again. You’ve ignored what I’ve said on this repeatedly. Including the clear evidence that it can’t be dismissed as a trope in this specific example.
As an exercise, try to see how many of your accusations hold up objectively without the usual disingenuous bad faith framing. I’ll make it even easier for you: try one.

Don’t you weaponise racism to suit your political agenda though Herbie?
You’ve started numerous threads on Tory racism. Quite rightly so, as they were valid complaints to raise.
However, you haven’t started a single thread on the antisemitism issues within the Labour Party in the 10+ years you have been posting here.
I’m nit having a pop at you. Just pointing out that most people weaponise racism against their political opponents.
Of course it would be much better if there was no racism to weaponise.

You usually beat me to it on the Labour threads, Glassers. There's not much value in clogging up the board with multiple threads on the same issue. Ultimately, a few mooks on a football forum make little difference to the debate, whereas the media has much more power to influence public perceptions and so what they choose to amplify and ignore makes much more of a difference.
So people should stop talking about the holocaust or slavery?
Regards talking about the holocaust or slavery is it going to change anything bring those people back No what you should do is ensure we have no repeats But we have had a lot of killing fields since ie Cambodia Uganda Chile Yemen just to name a few but if no wealth do the West really care.
That's twice you've referred to a Jewish stereotype in your posts.
Sorry but I find people picking up on that quite baffling.
He's surely saying that physical factors result in some Jewish people being recognised as Jewish (maybe especially in particular areas of some cities) & as a result, targeted with verbal or physical abuse for that reason, similarly to how some people are targeted with verbal or physical abuse for their physical characteristics such as the colour of their skin.
Remember this is the same Diane abbott who claimed Labour would enlist several thousand more police and when asked how much that would cost the figure she came out with amounted to them being paid £1000 per annum. Hope when Labour remove the Tories in the next GE their workings out of how to tax us doesn't include someone with the mental capacity of DA.

The poster said on two occasions that Jews have dark skin and big noses. It's a bizarre stereotype to throw in to the mix from somebody speaking out against antisemitism.

3 downvotes? Looks like you upset the DA fanclub there.
Was only a matter of time before the thick bigot dropped herself in it again.
Good riddance to another stain on the Labour Party. Hope her suspension becomes permanent.
Excellent to see so many staunch anti racists on the site. I'm guessing next time travellers camp on 1 of Ipswich,s beautiful parks a few of you will be down there welcoming them into the community.

I don't think you really know what point you're trying to make.

I have no idea what the poster meant by such language, but it could be form a reclaiming certain terms. My disabled dad used to shock everyone by referring to himself as a 'crip' for instance.
I guess we'll see if the poster replies.
Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa

Maybe they don't get so much abuse to their faces (although I can't vouch for that as I am not part of their community) but I do feel that racist comments about gypsies and travellers are extremely common in everyday life. It strikes me as almost being the acceptable face of racism, which is a disgrace.

In the context he put it, you might as well say that it’s “bizarre stereotyping” to say that black or brown people are attacked because they’re identified by the colour of their skin.

It's not really comparable though is it? Unless I've completely missed the point it's a very odd thing to say, particularly as it isn't true.
He was referencing Abbot's "visible/invisible" point, so not at all odd to say.
Obviously not all Jewish people have those characteristics, but it's enough to get some of those that do singled out for attack
Your comment that "it's not really comparable" makes it sound as though you're trying to defend DA.
As Giant Stow says though, I'll leave GrowOurOwn to reply to your point/s on this.
I'm not defending Dianne Abbott at all. Claiming "Jews have dark skin and big noses" is quite a sweeping statement, and would be widely accepted as an antisemitic trope.
5 pages in this thread but nobody here seems to give a flying one that there are literal Nazis on our streets, as in, the streets of Ipswich. Mind-blowing.
Not defending Ms. Abbott, by the way, just pointing out the ridiculous imbalance presented by the media that translates into ignorance and apathy from the general public.

Not forgetting the local MP denying the Nazis on the streets claim.

In fairness, it gets drowned out by the rampant Islamophobia, xenophobia and incompetence. You’re right of course, but two wrongs don’t make a right.
