Both absolutely supreme against really awkward and in-form centre-forwards. The only real hint of an error from Burgess ultimately brought our second goal; he looks a huge advance on the player we bought from Accrington though, such an improvement in him. Woolfy just purrs through games but has developed a little bit of a sh7thouse streak that I like very much. With those two at the back, and Morsy/Luongo in front, it looks like we can lock down pretty much any game at this level. It's a lovely feeling.

That's about as coherent as I can bother being today, woke up at 5am with excitement, this is absolutely pathetic and I love it ... long 72 hours ahead ...

You think we will spend nearly 2m on someone as backup?

We will see I guess.

Taylor will be available for a six-figure fee in the summer.

That's a pure assumption on your part.

You seem to be undercutting all fees, first Hirst, now Taylor.

He was offering 2m to play in league one.

He might easily think we can do better if we are in the Championship.

SB

Surely you don't look to spend that sort of money, which we did try to, without as much certainty as possible that you want them for the Championship?

I think we'll look to sign Hirst and Taylor and will be ~£5m for the pair of them

Undercutting where? Taylor's market value will be £800k/£900k with a year left on his deal in League 1, tops.

As for Hirst. £5m-6m seems madness on a player that's utterly unproven in the second tier. Half that, with a view to him improving steadily and being worth eight figures down the line, then we're talking better business sense.

He clearly wasn't though was he? We aren't signing a player for £2m that we don't think is good enough for the Championship and capable of being an asset we can sell on for more in the future.

I think it's a bit of both. We clearly earmarked him as someone capable of stepping up with us, we're not in the business of spending 7 figures unless the player meets that criteria a la Clarke, Davis and Broadhead.

I do think the circumstances go a long way to dictating a value though. We were perhaps a little more desperate in January, our options were more limited than shopping from a position of being a Championship club, and Peterborough's situation meant the money would've needed to be compelling. He'll now be heading into the final year of his contract and if Peterborough are still in L1 then it wouldn't surprise me if they felt they had to sell for less than the money than was being spoken about in January.

Town are still very keen on Taylor. They also know that if Posh don't go up he'll be available for a six-figure sum rather than the £1.7m offered in Jan.

As for Luongo, part of me wonders whether he'll go back to Oz now? My gut feel is that we may part ways and leave it as a wonderful 6-month relationship. Invest in a killer starting midfielder alongside Morsy and sign Taylor to provide depth alongside Ball, Humphreys and Camara.

If there's a cheap deal to be done for Taylor then, fair enough, it's probably worth a shot alongside whatever else we do.

I do know what you mean about Luongo. I get the impression — and it's only an impression — with him that he's a guy with a healthy dose of perspective who probably has other things he'd like to do too. Could be wrong! And definitely not doubting his drive or focus since being here, they are present for all to see, he's been simply brilliant.

He will be available for less in the summer for sure and that probably means we are more likely to sign him than less likely.

McKenna's two top targets in the summer were Taylor and Hirst. He really likes them both. Re Taylor, we've made 5/6 bids over the course of last summer and January.

Do you know what, I feel exactly the same about Luongo. It's not a criticism, but it seems to me he doesn't live and breathe the sport, I could be totally wrong too. He's been an integral part of this season, but whether he's part of our medium-to-long-term future is up for debate IMO. He deserves all the praise right now though.

Exactly, wasn’t that the ethos and justification for spending £1.5m on a player in league 1 ? That they can do the business in the championship as well, Taylor would be the same I would think and Peterborough were mad not to bite our hands off at £2m.

The only Muff in Town.

I think that's fair. If they're still holding out for £2m I don't think we'll pay it if we weren't willing to in January, I think we would move on to other targets.

He's clearly a player we rate though, we've chased him for ages, so at a price tag south of that I wouldn't be surprised to see us go back for him.

There will clearly be departures to make way for some of this activity. Keogh moving into a coaching capacity makes a lot of sense. Aluko, KVY, Pigott, Harper all look like their days are rightly numbered. 1 of Luongo or Evans probably won't be here next season I would imagine. It's going to be a sensitive balance to get right.

As many know, I'm closer to the Taylor deal than most. Let's just say Taylor will be leaving Posh one way or another if they don't go up through the playoffs. In fact, he would be here already were it not for Darren Ferguson.

I don't doubt that.

Question is where is he going? And what sort of fee will it take to get him?

Six figures in the summer. Posh will need the money and we'll hold all the aces. Edwards, Taylor and Mason-Clark likely to be moved on if they don't go up.

£800k-£900k gets it done.

They rolled the dice and turned down the 1.7m in the hope of turning their season around. It's kind of worked for them, but I still think they'll fall short. Taylor does enjoy working with Fergie.

I can see Woolfy with development and guidance, being a Premiership centre half

He is so comfortable on the ball and that’s what the majority of teams look for now

He looks a completely different player nowadays

Central midfield will be interesting. I really couldn't call who will be here other than Ball and Morsy. Wouldn't surprise me to see two new players in (Taylor + another?).

Oh completely. A good year in the Champ from him and we'd be looking at ... maybe not quite the money Bristol City got for Adam Webster as Woolfy is a couple of years older than he was ... but up to a £15m fee, surely.

Surely it’s Morsy, Taylor, Ball, Camera and maybe Luongo if we think we will cope with a championship season. Can’t see us getting 2 in and Evans to leave, Humphreys on loan for season.

What areas would you be looking to strengthen in the summer?

I'd be looking at us to sign Hirst permanently, someone to compete with Chaplin and Bhead (Celina?) and a monster of a centre midfielder.

I genuinely think we'll be looking at shopping in the tier above Celina.
