Christchurch Park Promotion Party ...Parking Tickets !!! 22:50 - May 8 with 9601 viewseddiespearitt03

A really blue day for many. I see the police and parking wardens out in force . A day spoilt for many people. Felt sad for all the Ipswich people who got a parking ticket. Nearly every car in Park Road and all the surrounding streets got a parking ticket. The only people allowed to park in the park were blue badge holders.
Why organize an event for 10.000+ people and provide no parking facility ?
Who were co sponsors of this event ? ( Ipswich Borough Council )

Bank Holiday Monday . Plenty of parking enforcers on overtime.

I don't understand why some people take pleasure in others' misfortune.

I don't understand why you would observe parking restrictions are to do with safety, when they clearly are not. (In this case)

I don't understand why the council couldn't have put up a couple of signs at the end of the road stating car parking regs were not Sunday rules.

I can't understand why that couldn't have been communicated at the event and in advance.

I can't understand why some people lack empathy at those caught out and feel the need to make out those caught out "deserve it"

And I can't work out why am wasting my time typing this tbh. Am out...enjoy your day.

KK. I will say it.

I had to slam my breaks on hard around Christchurch Park before and came literal inches from hitting a small child because one of the park entrances had cars on yellows blocking the line of sight.
So
"I don't understand why you would observe parking restrictions are to do with safety, when they clearly are not. (In this case)
"
Is very untrue.

There are signs all over the place on Henley Road and Park road.

I am not taking any joy in the misfortune of others, but am taking joy in the diligence to safety as to prevent the misfortune in others.

Councils have the rules and signs posted, people got caught not reading or making assumptions - It's that simple.

The bigger issue is why so many people feel it's appropriate to drive to an event that's only a few minutes walk from the town centre. If you live in Ipswich, walk or get the bus. If you're coming in from outside Ipswich, get the train or the bus. Air pollution in towns and cities is horrendous, emissions contribute significantly to climate change, and everyone continues to carry on as though driving a couple of miles to an event that's really quite accessible for most is perfectly reasonable. Of course there will be exceptions, people with disabilities for example, but that's already been covered and doesn't apply to most of those complaining I expect.

If you actually believe that then why do they allow blue badge holders to park on single yellows?

And why do they not tow away cars?

And why can you park after certain times?

Parking restrictions in residential areas (which I have no issues with) are to do with resident parking,.end of.

People claiming they are to do with safety are taking bobbins imho.

You are speaking bobbins on this one. People coming out from between cars in busy areas is hazardous. People with blue badge have 3 hours on single yellow and the condition they are not causing obstructions. People often don't mention the 'not causing obstructions' part.

Besides, Fonnereau Road, Henley Road and Park road are all residential areas.

There are signs - clearly displayed on lampposts which say when you can and cannot park. Why notify the event - why should they? It is the responsibility of the car driver to see if it is legal or not to park somewhere, not the council or event organisers. I'm assuming these people check where to park on football days without relying on the club to notify them first?

Ok I’ll bite

I don't understand why you would observe parking restrictions are to do with safety, when they clearly are not. (In this case) - if you look at the video in the tweet you can see there is a similar yellow line on the other side of the road, if cars were to park on that side of the road and be double parked would you be saying the same thing if the road wasn’t wide enough for 2 vehicles or for emergency vehicles to get through? This is without factoring in people (residents) wanting to cross the road, surely even you remember being told as a kid not to cross between parked cars?

I don't understand why the council couldn't have put up a couple of signs at the end of the road stating car parking regs were not Sunday rules. - no need to put any extra signage up if the signs are there to tell of the parking restrictions on Mon-Sat already, it’s not like they were changing anything, surely this is basic comprehension/

I can't understand why that couldn't have been communicated at the event and in advance. - I refer you to the previous comment that it was communicated, the rules were in place as per every other Monday in the year!

But if they are single yellow lines, and this was a Sunday, those cars would be parked legally - but because it was a Monday they aren't legally - ergo it can't be a safety issue or they would all be double yellows and no parking ever

Apparently a car without a blue badge creates a hazard but one with a blue badge magically doesn't!

Don't think they've quite thought this through tbh

Usually loading and unloading doesn't take place on Sundays. Bank Holidays are becoming treated more and more like business days. Hence why local councils dictate their parking policies on yellows.

Yes, lots of businesses up on Park Road and the surrounding area.

Our angry correspondent from Ely posted a video from Twitter, I suppose in support of his argument that the parking was 'dangerous' (I'll be honest, I'm not entirely sure what his point was) - with all the cars parked in close proximity to the kerb, no driveways blocked, etc etc...

If this had all happened on the Cornhill, and, say, everyone was parking on Princes St, bugg3ring up access to, I dunno, the Botanist - yep, I'd get it, that argument holds water.

But 2 hours, on a bank holiday? I dunno man, as Joe says - the council could've taken a view on this - and they didn't.

Anyway, everyone who broke the law got punished, so all is right with the world.

Fair point, agree with all of that.

To be honest, this story is a mountain out of molehill if we do some very rough maths.

Lets assume that of 11000 people, the average group was 5 people consisting of 3 kids and 2 adults. This would be about 2200 cars.

No everyone uses a car so lets hypothesise about 40% of visitors used a car to get there (i suspect 60% is closer)
meaning 880 cars were used

45 cars got tickets

That would mean 5.11% of people got a parking ticket where as 94% managed to park without penalty.

The problem here is very much in the actions of a few people who didn't read or made an incorrect assumption (or just didn't care)

TLDR:

Most people seemed to figure it out when it came to parking on the day.

At the end of the day If IBC can arrange parking on a park for an Ed Sheeran concert they could/should have provided parking for this 2 hour event. There was no consideration made for residents or public safety. The only provision was to penalize as many car drivers as possible

You should try organizing an event for 11.000+ people and see how far you get .

Going by the minus 6 down votes on this post " Eddie"....you can quess there is little sympathy . What's the difference in traffic flow between a Sunday and a public holiday Monday....very little.
I would of thought all the planning laws had been adhered to for this event. ( except any thoughts for people parking cars)

Make it -7
I really struggle to see how people can moan when they don't check the signage. If they can't read or understand then genuinely they should not be driving as they are a hazard. If you go to a car park you check signs - why is this different? Do your research - I parked two streets away on a road with no restrictions - it took me five mins with my google earth man to check it in advance.
in fairness the lady I walked back with who had a ticket knew she was in the wrong and accepted it with grace saying she was stupid to blindly follow people without checking.
