Christchurch Park Promotion Party ...Parking Tickets !!! 22:50 - May 8 with 9606 views | eddiespearitt03 | A really blue day for many. I see the police and parking wardens out in force . A day spoilt for many people. Felt sad for all the Ipswich people who got a parking ticket. Nearly every car in Park Road and all the surrounding streets got a parking ticket. The only people allowed to park in the park were blue badge holders. Why organize an event for 10.000+ people and provide no parking facility ? Who were co sponsors of this event ? ( Ipswich Borough Council ) Bank Holiday Monday . Plenty of parking enforcers on overtime. [Post edited 8 May 2023 22:56]

Christchurch Park Promotion Party ...Parking Tickets !!! on 00:32 - May 9 by SitfcB | I can’t believe the amount of people siding with the council on this, they’ve put on an event for 1000’s of people and can’t even change the restrictions or turn a blind eye for a few hours, how convenient that the traffic warden(s) was there at that time and not the other side of town. They knew it was going to happen. |
We have been getting 30k attendances at PR about half a mile away, and parking is not an issue. Why is it an issue when 10k go to Chantry Park. Plenty of parking spaces in Town.

Christchurch Park Promotion Party ...Parking Tickets !!! on 08:41 - May 9 by itfcjoe | Yep, pathetic from the Council - there are certain things they are happy to turn a blind eye to because they know it gives them so much grief to ticket it and this should have been one of them Especially when it was single yellow lines and people not always aware of the discrepancy between a Sunday/Bank Holiday. If they were doing people on double yellows or in residents zones then that's more understandable and harder to turn a blind eye to. But single yellow lines on a BH Monday - give me a break |
These signs are everywhere on park road and Henley road, if there are exemptions on BH days a sign will usually state "excluding bank holidays" or words to that effect.

But there is also a 'wisdom' of crowds, where you turn up, know it's a bank holiday, see loads of others there (without tickets) and assume that things cover bank holidays as well. Just all seems a bit petty from the council and needless on what should have been a day of celebration for the town - people making an error rather than a flagrant disregard

There is also guidance on the suffolk county council website Sorry pal, sucks people got tickets - but it wasn't a cloak and dagger jobby from the council I'm afraid.

Christchurch Park Promotion Party ...Parking Tickets !!! on 00:22 - May 9 by NeedhamChris | I'm not entirely sure why there's always such surprise at getting a parking ticket as a result of breaking parking rules. Not saying I agree with the rules - but why should us football fans be treated differently? |
I think the surprise is because it was a bank holiday. It seems logical that Sunday rules would apply to bank holidays, but they don't and that catches people out.

Not so much siding with the council - just not surprised at all by their actions and didn't expect others to be.

Christchurch Park Promotion Party ...Parking Tickets !!! on 09:54 - May 9 with 1892 views | brazil1982 | When I drove to Barnsley the other week, I researched where I could / not park, found out that after 5pm the council car parks are free in that town. I didn't expect Barnsley council to turn a blind eye to thousands of cars parking where they shouldn't. How difficult is it to park in town and then walk to the park? Jeez.

Christchurch Park Promotion Party ...Parking Tickets !!! on 08:17 - May 9 by Funge | ... and that's kind of the point, isn't it? Bit of a weird juxtaposition between putting on a free event in the park, and then having your parking wardens descend in force in the streets around said park, to ticket as many cars as possible (on a bank holiday, for a 2 hour period). Yes, all the drivers are very naughty, and I'm sure that they will carefully consider the error of their ways going forwards - but people have rightly seen this as a pretty cynical money-grab on the part of the council. Knowing that thousands of people were descending on the park, the council *could* have put a few signs up on Park Rd, reminding everyone that parking restrictions were in force... Anyway. We're promoted. Uppa Towun. |
Would you say the same for those who get ticketed when the council occasionally turn up with their wardens to ticket the cars that park on the verges on Birkfield drive? Yellow lines aren’t just put there to make money for the council, they are there for safety too

Power trip from the snidey Mothers. You remember when Arcade Tavern first started those street food nights with a sort of executive fast food van (on the cul de sac just before the viaduct - that absolutely no one would ever want or need to drive anywhere near to on a Friday night -. Well, I think it was their third one and Ben Gummer was in the pub and I had happened to be having a chat with him at the bar about something he had helped me out with once. It was a few years back and I think he was still our MP. Anyhoo, he had gone down there with his very very young kid, he must have still been MP as I am sure he went down there purely to support it. He was saying to Ross what a fantastic idea it was and that he appreciated his efforts to put things on and play a part and all that. Two hours later the council closed it because the food van was on a double yellow. Pretty much sums it up really.

The law used to be very straight forward regarding single yellow lines. Bank Holidays were treated the same as Sundays - always. This is something that has changed over the years so I can see that people may assume it's still the same and have not deliberately flouted the law.

Yep, remember this well as I was waiting for a burger! Fortunately the Swan allowed them to use their outdoor area to locate it that night but it soon drew an end to what was a great way of attracting people into town to spend money there

Where I am.... Bank Holidays are the same as Sunday - except Good Friday when standard rules apply. I assume it's just to save the faff of updating the settings on thier ticket machine if I'm honest, but a fair few people get caught out.

well it hasnt been that way in Ipswich for well over a decade, if not more like 15 years, as I think the law was changed around 2004 that allowed councils to issue parking fines, and remember not soon after on an Easter monday walking down Spring road and every car parked on a yellow line had been ticketed. one year IBC issued 20,000 parking fines, Christchurch Street & Fonnerau Road being one of the hotspots in the town.

I reckon there was more to it than mere parking, as IBC are notoriously bad at dealing with pavement parkers and usually claim that it sits with the county council instead, who then claim its down to IBC. I suspect serving food from that parked vehicle, and considering the street vendors who set up a stones throw away outside Barclays bank have to be licensed by the council, whilst a pop up vendor probably claims they dont have to be, was creating too much of an issue for them to ignore.

Not true, I made that mistake. Unless sign says Sunday’s and bank holidays then bank holiday is the same as any other day for single yellows.

Oh come on even you aren’t buy what you’ve just said, funny how this thread has gone from “I thought bank holidays didn’t count” to “assume bank holidays don’t count” It’s been shown that the signs clearly say no parking mon-sat and with the times, I’d say unless the people who got tickets regularly do that and never get a ticket then there can be no calls of ‘oh they just picked on us today’

I don't understand why some people take pleasure in others' misfortune. I don't understand why you would observe parking restrictions are to do with safety, when they clearly are not. (In this case) I don't understand why the council couldn't have put up a couple of signs at the end of the road stating car parking regs were not Sunday rules. I can't understand why that couldn't have been communicated at the event and in advance. I can't understand why some people lack empathy at those caught out and feel the need to make out those caught out "deserve it" And I can't work out why am wasting my time typing this tbh. Am out...enjoy your day.
