Burns role. 12:02 - May 15 with 2797 views | jp_itfc | If you asked me early part of the season, I would of said Burns is one of the players that could be phased out if we were promoted, but unless we change system slightly, I can see him being key again next season. We could definitely sign somebody more technical, but with that raw pace and work-rate it's a very difficult role to recruit for IMO. Big love for Burns.

His pure pace and directness causes a lot of problems for the opposition, earlier on in the season was being doubled up on as Donacien didn't provide enough of an attacking threat, but the addition of Clarke has freed up and allowed him to attack a defender 1v1. The only players that spring to mind are Rak Sakyi, Ogbene, Poku, or a Loanee from the premier league, although with us getting promoted an improvement on Jackson may be required even as a backup option.

Burns role. on 13:00 - May 15 with 2347 views | IPSWICHFANITFC | I always think you can tell one fan from another on their opinion on a) Burns b) his role & c) who'd they want to sign and play on the right. When you hear names like Rak-Sakyi for example, then I get the feeling they don't quite understand the role on the right. For me, it's very hard to find like for like and I wouldn't view it as a position that needs big attention in the summer given Burns and Jackson are contracted in that area. I guess a potential target could be Oliver Burke for example, but I don't think he offers much different from Burns. Any direct, 1 v 1 flair type 'winger' if you like won't ever be used there. It's the work off the ball that makes that role specialist. [Post edited 15 May 2023 13:02]

Burns role. on 13:09 - May 15 with 2261 views | BigCommon | He's deceptively good in the air, imo. Something we seem to be using more and more, to good affect, as we've mixed things up with longer out balls. Burns quite often nodding one to the inside right area, for Chaplin to pick up. He has quite a few strings to his bow for me. And good relationships on and off the pitch with his team mates. I think Burns is someone who could find another level in a higher division. In the same way, he came back into some really good form, when recalled to the Wales squad. I'm not sold on Rhak Saki as an alternative. Burns role is so physically demanding. And he's had to improve defensively, too... Rhak Saki reminds me of a right sided Kyle Edwards. Easy on the eye, great in and around the opposition box. But found wanting when it's time to dig in.... He was virtually invisible in that 6-0 verses Charlton. His stats look good over the entire season. But I thought he was very streaky, and inconsistent. Guess that's because he's still young and learning..
Burns role. on 13:16 - May 15 with 2221 views | Herbivore | Burns has played a crucial role for us since McKenna came in, his attributes enable us to play the asymmetrical system that we use so effectively and a large number of our goals come from the overloads that he helps to create on the right. His pace and directness gives us a real threat on the break and he has a knack of scoring important goals. All that said, I've generally not included him on my list of players I see being definite starters next season. I think it's likely he will be a regular still but I think it's an area we might strengthen as we look to continue evolving the side, perhaps developing Clarke to be a right sided Davis and playing with more of an inverted winger or inside forward on the right at times. Be interesting to see what happens over the summer and beyond.
