They have over 36K there, and Wednesday over 44K.

Considering the number of other clubs in the immediate vicinity - both Sheffield teams, Huddersfield, Doncaster, Rotherham, Leeds & Bradford - I'd say that's a very decent turnout indeed.

The town of Barnsley is almost double the size of Ipswich. To not sell your allocation and then moan about 6000 tickets being reallocated to Sheff Weds to fill the ground is pretty lame too. There are still thousands of empty seats on top of that.

You've ignored my point.

And comparison with Ipswich is a false one - Ipswich has no other clubs in the area competing for supporters.

I want Barnsley to win but conversely, Darren Moore to win! He's such a decent bloke I don't think Wednesday deserve him.

Have they moaned about that? If Wednesday can sell tickets that Barnsley can't then they should be able to. It would have been straightforward to supply each club with tickets in a block-by-block fashion such that the segregation could be moved along accordingly. I am sure we would have been fuming if we could have sold tickets for unsold seats. It also would increase the potential for fans to go in the wrong end.

Is Norwood on the bench? Doesn't appear to be playing.

Have they really got 36k? That top tier is 2/3’s empty. Not saying you’re incorrect, just seems a massive number with that many empty seats

Just said they’ve “sold over 20,000”. Number tbc but Oakwell is 23,000 so if they’re not even over that, it’s a woeful turnout.

Yes.

“The EFL requested 6,000 of Barnsley FC's allocated tickets to be available to Sheffield Wednesday supporters in Tier 5 on Wednesday, which was opposed by the Club.”

Barnsley spokesperson:

“Whilst we acknowledge the reasons offered up in terms of the current sales totals of both clubs, the potential risk to our supporters was our main concern. However, the EFL are confident that the safety measures put in place are sufficient.”

Even lower tiers have really sparse areas.

Not an attendance shagger, but it’s pretty poor. When they played us at Wembley we both sold 30/32k didn’t we?

They were slightly short of a sell out in 2000 but it wasn't by that many. Think that was the first time they had ever been at Wembley.

The club must be a bit disappointed at how few tickets they've sold but Barnsley is a poor town in an area with a lot of other clubs within an hour. It made me laugh when some Facebook group was praising Wednesday for taking 5,000 fans there - seemingly unaware just how close that side of Sheffield is to Barnsley.

The attendance was 73,427 so more than that were sold unless there were more than 10,000 hospitality.

I can't easily find a figure for how many Town tickets were sold.

Ipswich population: 139,642
Barnsley population: 96,888 (2021 census)

I assume you're confusing the district of Barnsley (which includes several other towns) with the town. It's like using Waveney's population figure for Lowestoft.

Was neutral at kick off but definitely want Barnsley to win now. Keep twelve man (thirteen including the VAR official) Wednesday in League One.

It is also fair comment to point out there are many other clubs around Barnsley while Ipswich has got a much larger catchment area in terms of distance to other reasonable size clubs.

Norwood seems to be having a good game now he is on.

Another local comparison is Braintree. The town itself is about 50,000. The district is about three times that as it includes Witham, Halstead, Kelvedon among others.

Hi Steve
Just verifying some of your points ,
As regards to tickets in 2,000 play off I think we were just short of sell out by about fifteen hundred or just less .
As far as the FA Cup semi final be Cardiff I think we took about sand or slightly more if memory serves .
As far as this season goes sales were slightly disappointing but the cost of living has hit bad on our already under funded economy and I know many who sadly just couldn’t justify the expense .
However just reading some comments about the support around here and size of population etc .
It’s worth adding that although sandwiched in between other very close clubs that the Borough of Barnsley didn’t exist till the Suxties/ seventies ,
And the towns and villages to the south and east which up to being in our borough had no allegiance to Barnsley Fc with many already died in the wool Wendy fans ,
Also the towns and villages to the North and West were well populated with Leeds Utd sympathies.
This was at a time when these two clubs were riding high in popularity and the region was served by a very good West Riding transport system instead of the split west and South Yorkshire system we gave today .
Most of our support was drawn from a pool of a five mile radius of the town centre with even a heavy Wendy support in amongst that .
We are gaining more support from the Borough but it’s still influenced by these clubs .
Lots of buses from the villages and small towns had mixed supporters travelling together to Wembley in buses and cars .
A per population of support from the borough is a bit distorted for that reason tbh as in some parts of the borough are heavily Wendy or Leeds .
Wendy are a bit like Liverpool and Man Utd in respect of drawing a large proportion of their support away from the city ( obviously not to the same extent ) and Sheff Utds support is mainly from the city as is Everton and Man City .
On a positive note it promises to be a good season for us next year and whilst taking nothing for granted regards promotion/ playoffs we should at least be winning more games than we were in the championship which was sometimes hard to watch .
Wish you all well for next season and you never know the momentum you have and a good transfer window along with the very good team you already have could be a very good season indeed .
