You got a new job Phil on 09:39 - Jun 20 by nodge_blue | That thread is unreal. There's a guy saying Ashton lied about telling us our transfers were roughly net zero. He seems to confuse overall spend with transfers ins and outs but still makes a huge post about it all. Ashton is good atm cos we all know where we were as a club and where we are. But he isn't given free rein on all this. He's governed by what the owners want to spend and commit to. If we get a bad run his stock would go down a bit. That's just football. But he's working hard at the club and largely doing a lot of stuff right. And that's winding Bristol fans up even more. All a bit sad as Ive no beef with Bristol. |
I replied as much about the so-called Ashton lies by Fevs on there 2 days ago. Still hasn't been 'moderated'. They just want to stew in their own angry little bubble. Look at the state of this; "I do like their manager though, that probably was an Ashton signing to be fair, he likes these ‘trendy’ signings, as we all know, that’s the 1 in 10 bits of sh!t that sticks to the wall." Even with something objectively Ashton's got right this twerp can't give credit.

You got a new job Phil on 10:16 - Jun 20 by TRUE_BLUE123 | They haven't got everything wrong tbf to them, Ashton is very Brent esque. Some of the one liners he comes out with are exceptional. I didn't like him running on the pitch at Lincoln either that was very strange behaviour Ashton has done well so far and I think Bristol City fans need to realise it would be weird for us to not like a guy who hasn't yet done anything wrong. But things change fast in football and we could end up getting relegated and then everything turns to sh1t, I hope not. But for now, we are all pretty happy and that's the main thing. |
There's no doubt about that, he's waled straight out of a 90's management book. I don't really understand the obsession with MA's 'hit rate'. He's not responsible for identifying targets, there's a recruitment team for that who work alongside a manager and effectively pass on a list of players they want. It's MA's job to negotiate the deals on terms that are the most favourable to the club. They're of course entitled to their opinions, but the fact of the matter is there's a lot of circumstances that contribute and a lot that people never see. If ME took over at West Brom and spent some cash and got them promoted it's probably not a lot different to his remit here, but a bit of fortune and circumstances result in a different outcome. It's very fine lines and people will always form their opinion ultimately on how the team performed on the pitch. There's also the fact that people learn from experiences, I dare say ME would be reluctant to throw 5 year contract extensions out if he had his time again. We can only judge on what we see. We've had a guy come in who has put the club back closer to the community than it's been in years, tied us up with one of the worlds biggest pop stars, record breaking shirt and merchandise sales, full houses which were a thing of the past, massively improved our squad, achieved good fees for players that are yet to look like they 'got away' such as Dozzell and Simpson and, vitally, overseen our promotion back to the Championship. It's been a hugely successful 2 years but to the earlier point, had we finished 3rd and lost in the playoffs which is incredibly fine lines (perhaps a Walton penalty save at Bolton away from happening, who knows) then there might be a few sat here feeling similar.

They’re up to 72 pages now. I particularly liked our friend’s post on OTIB on Sunday (DaveFevs on there): ‘The first thing you need to realise is that Ashton came in initially as Consultant in 2012-ish, changed recruitment (people, processes and systems)…and we got relegated. Now I can’t say he was responsible for that, but the squad become full over average overpaid players.‘ So he’s actually blaming Consultant Ashton for relegation in 2012. Saying ‘now I can’t say he was responsible for that’ is a bit like saying ‘I don’t wish to be rude but’. If he didn’t think Ashton was responsible, why post it? Our BC friend likes to post a little curtesy with insult. A little reasonableness with the bile. He likes to let it be known that he’s on it with the accounts, the invoices, FFP and even claims to have met MA a few times. I wonder if he took a mallet and stake with him to see the evil Ashton off? Clearly he forgot or lost it amongst the spreadsheets. He claims to be all seeing all knowing, here to educate the idiots. I doubt it’s occurred to him to look at what this club was like before Gamechanger or that people following this club are not that stupid, even if they can’t attain DaveFevs pinnacle of intellect. Most people have never met MA, most would never wish to including me. Personally I’m only interested in whether or not he does a good job here. So far, bar the Brentish bit, he has. Who cares if he took part in human sacrifices at Bristol or bewitched Lansdowne with a swinging watch. When he stops doing a good job here, you can bet your beard trimmer the Americans will kick him out faster than Johnson can raid the fridge. Rightly so. But two years on, so far so good. You got a new job Phil on 17:54 - Jun 17 by FevsBCFC | It’s because some of us on OTIB take a great interest across the whole EFL. The fact that you can’t name a single Bristol City player says more about you than it does about someone who has a knowledge about more than just their own team. 🤷ðŸ»â€â™‚ï¸ FWIW re transfer gossip, it’s pretty common to see the likes of Pete O’Rourke listing both Bristol City and Ipswich Town in many tweets, especially ones that are primarily agent talk only. Players like Morsy, Luongo, Chaplin, Burns, Broadhead, Ladapo, Woolfenden, Burgess, Walton, etc, etc, game styles are well known to many of us, because at previous times they’ve been opponents in Lg1 or Champ, in Burns case our own player, or have been targets, Walton 3/4 years back, or scouted by some of our forum members who worked for City in the past. Maybe it’s time to expand your football knowledge beyond Suffolk? 🤷ðŸ»â€â™‚ï¸ |
EDIT: I didn't see when this was originally posted, Jesus. [Post edited 6 Mar 2024 10:19]

You got a new job Phil on 18:06 - Jun 17 by FevsBCFC | Yep, it’s not a position that usually influences. How many teams do you usually call out the LB as being so influential? That’s the point. You forget Ipswich were a team last season that dominated, full-backs can play high, can influence. But up a level, it’ll be very difference. Your manager recognises that!!! |
Be different will it? Arf. This really has aged brilliantly. [Post edited 4 Apr 2024 12:10]
