His recording studio on the edge of Ipswich contains the equipment used to record The Jam’s ‘The Gift’ album, which in turn partly derived from a WWII radar station.

Do you remember him playing with Reg Webb in the Mulberry Tree late 70s?

Apologies if this is already well known, but Nik is a long standing resident of Suffolk : albeit not a Town fan to my knowledge.
He used to sign on one of my fellow Town supporting mates back in the late 70's - called himself Nicholas back then and was the only staff member at the old Portman Road Jobcentre with a feather cut.

Has he taken over Springvale then ? And do Cradle of Filth still have their rehearsal room there ?
Good Lordy, what a waste of an orchestra. Reminds me of when Metallica disappeared up their own backsides doing things like this where the orchestra adds nothing. Some genres and artists suit the approach, but not simple sing along pop songs. Sorry!
Worked with Nick, as he was then, at the Ipswich Dole Office from 1976 to 1978. He was a good lad and a few of us used to pop over The Dove to play pool at lunch time. Can't remember the name of his band but went to see them a couple of times. After I left the office I heard he had moved to London to try and make it in the music business. Never heard more about him until after I left the the UK in 1982. I think it was 83 or 84 I looked at the charts in a UK paper one day and saw a Nik Kershaw in the top 10 ! I guessed it had to be him but with no internet in those days took a while to confirm it with a friend who had also worked at the Dole office.
He was a genuine good guy and I was pleased to see he had made it and later on watch him at Live Aid !

My mother worked inthe dole office, Rope Walk from about 78”. She passed away in 81, Linda. Can’t remember if the office had moved to Portman Road by then.

Don't know about that, some pop songs lend themselves to orchestration.
This sounds pretty good with a 62 year old Kim Wilde singing.

I remember claiming there for a couple of weeks in 1978 after a summer job had finished and before I went off to college.
There was no requirement then to be looking for work. On a related point, someone on the radio yesterday said they qualified for free school meals when their miner dad was on strike in the early to mid-70s.
The pendulum has certainly swung, and not for the better in my view.

Oh really ! Sorry to hear that you lost her. I can't remember which month I left in 1978 but I think it was around spring time or early summer so our paths might have crossed.
It was in Rope Walk when I left and I went back for the Christmas parties at least the next two years so it was still there around 1980. I don't know when it moved as I left the UK in 1982.
