There is, and you want to surround yourself with good players but as a forward at such a pivotal stage of your career, their next moves are massive. You want minutes and you want numbers. Coming in to compete with Ladapo is a different prospect for Hirst than coming in to compete with Simms. How established as a Premier League player is Simms though ? Phil's post on another thread about him indicated that Dyche was not that committed to developing him into a regular at Everton so the prospect of being able to come into a squad of players with a manager looking to take things forward and upward could be very appealing to him. |  |

He's not at all established, but after his loan move at Sunderland I would imagine he would want to get comfortable that he's going to be the main forward in our system. There will always be competition but I think coming in to compete with 30 year old free transfer Ladapo is a different prospect to having another young and ambitious forward the club have just spent big money on. 2 into 1 doesn't go and while there's lots of rotation, playing 50% of the minutes isn't going to be all that attractive. That scenario also assumes Ladapo plays 0% of the minutes which is highly unlikely. Just feels like a big gamble given we only tend to play with the 1 central forward. Top of their priority list will rightly be 'will I play?'. | | | |

i don't think i would be surprised. Thought he improved massively during the season but i thought Hirst was a real step up from him.
Unless they have an eye on a couple of strikers, but i can't see us spending fees on 2 strikers this summer. |
Hirst was different from Ladapo. The former offering movement and positioning, the latter strength and hold-up play (plus an ability to turn and shoot). Freddie's 17 League and 4 cup goals are not to be sneezed at. He has played a full season in the Championship, scoring a decent number of goals in the process (9). | |

No-one's suggested anyone will play 50%. The player themselves, if they're confident in their own ability, will think they can play the majority of the minutes, and it's up to the other guy to shift me. That's healthy competition.

Who do you think might be for the chop?
There's lots of talk of the likes of Pigott / Harper moving on which are surely a given, but I've been saying a while I wouldn't rule out some bigger departures than that. Harness, Ladapo, Evans surely can't be safe.

Why would you want to?
If you're after column inches you'd keep them separate. What's the benefit of holding back either a new signing or a kit launch so you can do them together? Save on photographer fees?
To think it's a possibility there'd need to be some precedent. Otherwise you're just plucking nonsense out of your arris. Oh. | |

Ladapo out and Simms and Hirst in, for me. The one area where we need to invest for the next 3-4 years and those two could stick around and grow.
Each offers something different too - Hirst is the pressing forward. Simms is the target man, ideal for playing against deep-lying teams. |
Realistically, we need three 9s.
2 incomings and Ladapo.
If we want to press teams the way we do.It will take it's toll physically, both in game, and across the season..
With only 2 strikers. If one gets a knock or injury, then our whole pressing game will be degraded.
Don't get why people are happily binning off Freddy. 20plus goals, at strike rate per minute thats on par with Chaplin.Someone who never moans about minutes and is up to speed with our tactics.
