I reckon the physio department have been running tests on all of them to see which of our Pace bowlers have the necessary flexibility in their spine and core to twist mid delivery stride and pull off the 20 Mankads we are going to take in the next Test.

Tongue and Robinson have been more even - with both bat and ball* - than perhaps it feels. But the fact the latter is more established maybe makes it seem less impressive than from the debutant. * Tongue got Khawaja, Warner and Smith, but Robinson took the wicket of Labuschagne, plus some of the notoriously stubborn tail-enders.

Definitely Broad is going to give that a try!

I suspect it's managing Tongue, and the bowling attack as a whole across the series rather than a reflection on his performance in this Test. Not sure the plan was to play Broad and, especially, Anderson in the first two Tests though. Robinson does at least have the advantage that he's riled the Aussies a bit this series.

I'm surprised they have dropped him unless it's a fitness thing or they simply plan to rotate him and Wood Personally I'd like to see Tongue and Wood, working in tandem

I don't think Headingley is a wicket for out & out pace so keeping Robinson - who has done OK despite being down on pace from last year - makes sense. Woakes is another sensible selection for Headingley, although I thought he should have played at Lord's given his fantastic record there. The selection of 4 seamers shows an acceptance that Stokes isn't fit enough to fulfil this role, which unbalances the team. The selection of Moeen fills a gapin the batting, while Woakes is more than useful with the bat.Anderson has been ineffective in the first 2 Tests despite bowling in helpful conditions.

Old Trafford would be a better test to go in with two rapid pacemen as there is usually a lot of life in it and I reckon Broad will need a rest by then to allow Jimmy back on his home ground. In fact, I suspect Broad may have been rested for this one but events Sunday may have had the adrenaline pumping. We miss Jofra badly this summer. Edited twice as auto correct keeps changing pacemen to placements. [Post edited 5 Jul 2023 17:04]

I think time was up for Archer as a Test bowler as soon as he started having elbow operations last year. Root bowling him into the ground (42 overs in an innings on a dead pitch in New Zealand in 2019 FFS!) can't have helped.
